Quite a prolific company in the east and maunfactured hundreds of lifts. Her western ties are a little more mysterious. What is known about Hall just before being bought out by VonRoll? And how many lifts were installed by VonRoll with Hall parts after the Merger? I am Trying to figure out how a Hall Triple ended up in Edmonton of all places and as i beleive it was installed right around the time of the merger. Does anyone know when Hall began offering overhead drive terminals? and are there any specific lift features that help destiguish the age of a hall?

I don't know when Hall began building overhead terminals, but going by the lifts at Monarch they are definitely the newer of the two versions.
Didn't one of the lead engineers from Hall join forces with Jan Leaonard of Thiokol to form CTEC in '79?

Edmontonguy, I assume the Hall triple you're talking about is the one at Rabbit Hill. As for how it got there, we already know that the ski industry community is rather small and at one time, the majority of the chairs at Sunshine Village were Halls (Teepee Town and the original Great Divide being the exceptions). It would be a fair assumption to assume that the owners of Rabbit Hill asked around and received a favourable recomendation from the boys at Sunshine. BTW: Sunshine's one remaining Hall - the Strawberry triple - features an overhead drive terminal as well.

Newer Halls have an open triangle design connecting the hanger arm to the bail chairs. Other than that, little changed throughout the years. A hall with wooden seats is not necessarily older than one with metal as both chairs were offered throughout the years. You can lear alot from the brochures on my page.

It's really hard to find the age of a Hall. The one at Belle-Neige was built in 1980, but it seemed to be built in the mid 60's, when the resort opened. It's a 1404/1400, a model that existed in the sixties. The lift have four-sheave towers.

CTEC was formed by Jan Leonard of Thiokol and Mark Ballantyne (sp?) of Hall, according to what little I remember of CTEC's old History section on their website. They say that they are especially good at retrofitting old Hall and Thiokol lifts, which would fit with this.
The History section now only has pictures of their factories

There is that ski area in Tahoe that is right next to Mt. Rose that has a Hall. Also Silver Mtn. Idaho has one I think (Saw it in a movie). Then Silver Mtn has a lot of new Von Roll lifts, but they are still Hall's chairlift designs since Von Roll took over Hall.

Las Vegas Ski Resort and Mt High, probably Snow Summit and Bear Mountain. There are also several Hall skyrides; the oakland zoo, santa cruz boardwalk, and a von roll gondola at Great America. THe resort cameron was talking about is Sky Tavern, run by the city of Reno as a place for kids to learn to ski and snowboard.

The Von Roll gondola at great america was long before the von roll purchse of hall. At that point Hall was building gondolas designed by PHB. Jackson Hole had a few Hall doubles as well as aspen highlands.
For a list of a few go to the Hall section of my site.

Just an update here for Edmontonguy on the possible age of the Rabbit Hill Hall triple. Was at Sunshine last week and found out that the Strawberry Chair (with overhead terminal) was installed in 1974. I also found a plaque mounted in the Mad Trappers Saloon from one of the other Halls - it noted a 1968 installation date. It wasn't specific as to what lift - the original Angel or Standish chair, though.
