Just finished my first ever absentee ballot, and I must admit its much easier then waiting until election day. Then.... going to the polls, finding a place to park, waiting for your turn, then feeling rushed as several hundred people wait behind you.

For the first time I was able to take my time and read through the voters pamphlet as I voted. I'm sold on this from now on.

I sent my ballot in today, first time voting for president. Limelight, we won't even have a choice much longer, King County is going all absentee in 2010. I agree with you, it is much easier to have the ballot and voter's pamphlet and take time to look over it all.

Oregon has had vote by mail for a few years now, I like it.

I would also like to see a box to check called; None of the above. Just not voting can sometimes backfire.

Don't forget the dead people from the local cemetery. It's not fair if the dead don't get a vote, the dead have rights too.

Damned right! I know full well who my Dad would have voted for - and a few other ancestors too. I feel I should be able to cast their votes as well as my own.

If all the people who have ever walked the face of the earth were allowed to vote by proxy in this manner, we just might get a better government. After all, the Mormons baptize the unwilling (or unknowing) by proxy - so why not?

Or just maybe we'd wind up with something like 1930s Chicago: "Vote early, and vote often" Alphonse Capone

P.S.
Rights, or rites ? This is a crucial distinction, since the term usually applied is last rites. The state of spelling being what it is in this country, they might just mean last rights - which would of course mean that the dead don't have them anymore and, thus, could not vote. It's all so complicated! I need a drink.

There are three roads to ruin; women, gambling and technicians. The most pleasant is with women, the quickest is with gambling, but the surest is with technicians. Georges Pompidou
