Thats insane. They started it way too late, in late summer instead of right after the snow melted off

This lift is really cool. Don't care for the cream color... looks kinda tacky in the snow. But, man, they run Crystal Express at full speed and it just hurdles all the towers. I guess Incline doesn't really care how much they are spending on electricity since they don't make a profit off Diamond Peak anyway.

10 feet in two weeks, 6 of it in the week I was up there. Tuesday at Northstar was somewhat packed, but no where near the level that I have seen it. Diamond Peak has no lift lines ever, it seems, for the Crystal Express (Which is the fastest HSQ I have ever ridden, so I can only imagine that it was approaching the 6 MPS limit. It was FLYING over the towers). It was stormy on Monday at Northstar, so it was like an average late-January day, but the powder was fresh and deep, and it lasted well. On Wednesday, Heavenly was not as packed as Northstar was on tuesday, but it was not as good as it can get in January. The snow was packed by that point and windblown. I spent Friday at Northstar again, and it was only very slightly more crowded than Monday, but the powder that had fallen that night didn't last as well. Also, it was a pain getting home from the resort.
Now, as for Thursday...
That day is the type of day I dream about when I think of skiing. A very hardcore winter storm arose, keeping out the "fair-weather people". The fact that it was New Year's day kept away all the drunks. Finally, the I-80 was shut down so that no one from San Francisco or Sacramento could reach the resort. These three factors ensured that I did not wait in line once the entire day. I swear, it seemed as though there were only something like 500 people on the mountain. The powder rose to my knees and at times my waist. Best of all, the snow was coming down so hard, that after a few hours, a set of tracks would be completely covered. Finding fresh powder was a cinch.
My only complaints are that Northstar was not able to open the Backside or Lookout (they also didn't run Pioneer after about 11:00 due to lack of business). But I ought to be happy anything was open (considering every other resort on the basin was virtually closed). However, it seems odd to me that Northstar roped of portions of Vista and the East Ridge for no appearent reason. Was Booth Creek just being a powder whore, saving snow for the weekend crowds?
I must say, the 3 hour drive to get home was definitely worth experiencing that day.
