The resort says in a statement that Edgar B. Stern Jr. died Sunday in Seattle.
Stern was a native of New York and longtime resident of New Orleans. He graduated from Harvard University and served in the Army in World War II.
Deer Valley President and General Manager Bob Wheaton says Stern was a visionary and pioneer with passion, determination and a commitment to excellence.
Stern developed other properties besides Deer Valley, which opened in 1981. They included the Stanford Court hotel in San Francisco, the Royal Orleans hotel in New Orleans and Aspen's Starwood Ranch residential subdivision in Colorado.
Stern is survived by his wife of 61 years, Pauline, a daughter, three sons and seven grandchildren.

Sir it was a pleasure to work with you to help you make your dream come true.
I will never forget the first time I met you, I was checking tickets, at Sterling, you came thru, and with out looking at your name tag, I asked to see you pass. The look on faces of those with you was PRICELESS. I was only trying to do my job, and honestly, had no clue who your were till that faithful day. Thank you for understanding.
How dare you ask to see Mr. Stern’s Pass they all said. As soon as I realize what I had done, I got real quiet and apologetic. Your reply was, don’t worry about it. I’m glad to have you in the Deer Valley Family. Keep up with the great job.
The times you came flying down Stein’s Way ( The original Hawkeye) to the bottom of Mayflower. You’d get up to the lift, and end up having to wait for the rest of the party you were skiing with. The smile on your face, I could tell that you couldn’t of been happier. You were like a little boy at Christmas. A ll the money in the world couldn’t buy that smile.
May Eternity bring you endless blue bird days, and endless powder shots, and endless groomers, you loved to fly down.
Thank You Edgar, You will be truly missed, buy me, Katherine my wife, formally the Snuggary(silver lake resutrant ) Resturant Manager and the rest of the industry.
Rest assured, you have the GREATEST TEAM of PROFESSIONALS to carry your dream.
Todd Ramey DV Lift Ops 1988-2003

As per a Vetern Ski Instructor at DV.
Skiers right of Perseverance from the high road off of Steins Way.
That's road #1(the first cut off, up above the Mayflower Motor room) where it comes off the top of Steins,, turn lift ski down a short narrow road, turn right onto Persy. Sounds like it's extream skiers right of Persy.
Turley, Oldschool, feel free to correct me. That's how i'm pictureing it in my mind. If this in fact true, i couldn't think of a better run to rename in honor. 'Fast Eddie' loved to Fly down Persy.

You are correct. In fact it starts off the top, South of Sultan, but they start grooming off the cat trail that you are describing.
