Guess what this project is.

Hint- It costs a fortune, takes a lot of work to build, and you can do the same thing it does with a shovel and some snow. Attached File  100_0003_IMG.JPG (488.49K)

Chairlift n. A transportation system found at most ski areas in which a series of chairs suspended from a cable rapidly conveys anywhere from one to eight skiers from the front of one line to the back of another.

I have to ask.

Why have one on the unload? To me it will cuz more problems then solve. Hopefully I'm wrong.

Correct me if I am wrong, but a FG quad can run 450 fpm max. Add a conveyor to both ends, say running at 150 fpm, you could increase the line speed to 600 fpm and still remain within the B77 recommendations for speed, because effectively the lift is being slowed for both loading and unloading. My question is, can a conveyor in a unload situation move people fast enough off the ramp to keep them from getting hit, and if so, can it run faster than the allowable max speed for a beginners type conveyor. Maybe increased speed is not the intention but efficiency?

I talked to the digger operator on site at the bottom loading conveyor and he said that the lift maintence manager had been to Europe and was impressed with the system and immediately thought of putting a loading/ unloading carpet on the base quads. He said that it effectively smoothed the loading and unloading and allowed for less stops and slows. It will be interesting to see if that is the case!! Interesting to note the unloading carpet is being imported from europe as there is currently no such thing manufactured in the US!

But I don't know even one Lift in Europe which has one.
Loading carpets are very common and I have already ridden several Lifts That have one. This really makes loading easier and more comfortable.
But a unloading carpet would have to run faster than the lift does to bring the passengers off the chair. Then I see the problem how they get of the unloading carpet without falling.

Sorry folks,

I didn't know someone had been following, documenting, and posting our load/unload conveyor progress on here already. The trees truely do have eyes you know.

A Few Answers....

EricEurope- Yes the unload carpet runs faster than the haul rope speed. So the pile should be at the end of the carpet instead of at the unload line.

Skisox- Works on paper anyway.

Skier- Bingo! Efficiency is the ticket.

Kicking Horse- I really hope your wrong. Really.

Jonni- Just two words for you.

I'll let yall know how it goes Christmas week.
