That's terrible. I'd say he needs more than just a break. Anyone know where that was filmed?

If he were in fact drunk, which he appears to be, he should get a boot in the ass on his way out the door.

Theres a place for all of God's creatures, right next to the mashed potatoes.

"You could say that a mountain is alot like a woman, once you think you know every inch of her and you're about to dip your skis into some soft, deep powder...Bam, you've got two broken legs, cracked ribs and you pay your $20 just to let her punch your lift ticket all over again"

That is just awful. I mean you don't let any other public transportation operators work while drunk. I mean, ski lifts are as much a part of the transportation system as buses. And I know I would not want a drunk bus driver.

seen this before at some local areas that i won't mention here. Usually the tow rope operators are the worst about this kind of thing.

Personally if you are dumb enough to drink and end up going into work drunk you should be fired no questions ask.

I don't think he looks drunk. I think it looks like he's working in a slippery loading area. When I was an operator I stepped down off the load ramp into the load area and fell flat on my back all because it had turned to very compact slippery snow from the previous operator.

Did the ice affect your speech? Your coordination?

Center-pole chairs - could be Yan. That means the chair might have come from Alta.

I say "come from Alta" because that would never happen there. Their ski patrol once sent doughnuts to their arch rivals at Snowbird. The next day, they sent photos of the entire ski patrol with doughnuts on their erect penises. They might do that, but they wouldn't do this.

It's not Alta, the lift is a Riblet and it looks to me like it might be in the Midwest somewhere. Allan, did you watch the whole thing? The guy couldn't hang up the phone or step over the lift line rope.

I retract my comments. However I will add that I have tripped (and fallen) over maze ropes, dropped phones and gotten hit by chairs as well as T's all while not drunk but not all in the same day.

People these days. However, it's better than what's in Europe. Just a loading carpet, and a stop gate.

In watching the video, the resort could invest in a couple of signs telling people where to stand. I think there was a range of about 10 feet of where people were catching it, or maybe the liftie forgot to put them out while finishing the keg from the night before. :)

Or maybe this is all pure gibberish—a product of the demented imagination of a lazy drunken hillbilly with a heart full of hate who has found a way to live out where the real winds blow—to sleep late, have fun, get wild, drink whisky, and drive fast on empty streets with nothing in mind except falling in love and not getting arrested . . . Res ipsa loquitur (it speaks for it self). Let the good times roll." HT

No it's not better then Europe...... There is still a operator sitting in the booth so they can stop the lift if need be. I highly doubt this guy could stop the lift if the need was there!

Being a lift operator is just like driving a car, People are putting themselfs in your hands to get them safely up that mountain.

One of the best comparisons I have heard is that the operators of a quad chair with 180 carriers are responsible for as many passengers as the pilot of a 747. Its an interesting way to think about it that when you are choosing who to put in the responsible role of operations of that lift.

I've heard that one too and, in a sense, you're right - but I'll bet that lift manufacturers think of it more like operating a drone that is largely automatic.

Yan always compared lifts to elevators - and their operators to the "elevator attendants" that we no longer see. I'm not agreeing with that - it's just how the man thought... and probably still thinks.

In any case, being pie-eyed on the job merits demerits - at the very least.

The video was filmed in Michigan, up in da Yoop. Notice how he never looks up hill at the line. This may explain why they don't enforce proper loading techinque on those center poles. I hit a halo once on that lift because of the way the lift was improperly loaded and iqnored.
