Well my computer arrived the other day and I was able to set it up tonight. It's a pretty nice system. My only complaint is that the monitor stand is defective so my screen sits down on the right side about a quarter of a centimeter. However, that can easily be fixed by calling Dell and requested a new one.

I just ordered about the same exact machine from ascendtech.us, I was going to build it myself but a broken wrist put an end to that idea.

Good deal! Mine should arrive on Tuesday and then I'll go out and try to find a good Graphics card for it, as well as Windows Vista

i am now dual-booting windows 7 and ubuntu 8.10
I actually like windows 7. it feels much more complete in the beta stages than vista ever felt.

Well it finally arrived. Very nice system, just need a Graphics Card and an OS and I'll be set. I'm interested in this windows 7 thing though... Just not sure if I should go with XP or Vista for the time being, as most of the programs I run require Vista or XP operating system.

I highly suggest XP Professional. Vista is crap and a waste of resources.

Nice config! If I were you I would install Windows 7 64 beta and wait for the final release to come out and then buy that. I recommend 64 bit because you can only address 4GB of RAM in 32 bit operating systems. I have Win 7 32bit dual booted (I only have 2GB of RAM) on my MacBook right now for windows tasks, it works great and is definitely faster than vista. imo XP is great for older computers but it doesn't take advantage of the DX10 capabilities of new gfx cards.

As for me: Leopard for the win! I can't believe how fast, stable, functional, easy to use and beautiful the OS is. Plus the programs you can download (many open source) are absolutely fantastic. The only thing it sucks for is gaming, but then you can just reboot to Windows and take advantage of the integrated 9600..

You can run both 32bit and 64bit software on 64bit os.

A Dell E510 P4 2.8ghz 8gb of ram Running VMware ESXI (I have 4 vm's running) 4 1tb Seagates
A IBM x360 Quad 1.4ghz Xeon Proessors, 4gb of ram and 3x 73gb 10k scsi Disks Running Windows 2003 Enterprise Edition
A HP nc4200 notebook in the Truck
A HP nc6220 laptop for the bathroom

One nice feature I've head about (but yet to try) is the virtual XP mode in 7, mid grade and higher only, the basic won't do it. I may finally upgrade my 3 versions of XP

It seems that some Flash material will "temporarily confuse" my MacBook Pro.....

My mom just got an HP dm3 from office depot for $499. It looks like a very obvious knockoff of the 13-inch aluminum Macbook, which is a compliment. It's much more solidly built and attractive than any other HP product I've ever used, and it claims to have 10 hours of battery life. Initial impressions of Windows 7 are that it's an improvement over Vista, but it's still several steps down from Leopard that I'm used to now. However, for 500 bucks, it's a great deal. Definitely a vast improvement over the comparably priced HP DV series that's been out for years now

I just purchased a new Dell Studio XPS 16 fully loaded. However, I'm very dissapointed with the WLED display it came with because of how bad the color gamut is. I wanted to get the RGB LED display, but it was not available with my offer (20% off) and only came in a resolution of 1920 x 1000, which is way too big for a laptop with a 16" screen.

I'm going to call up Dell can complain about it today.

While I did buy it, I never knew that the color gamut would be so far off (by a lot) and the RGB LED 1920 x 1000 resolution was not offered with the special coupon rate.

Dell offers a 21 day return policy (defective or not), so hopefully I will be able to return it. However, Dell's customer support SUCKS! I haven't even been able to talk to anyone about returning it. I get people from India who are like thank you, please let me transfer you and guess what, they disconnect me. It's a freaking nightmare!

So after about 3 hours trying to return it by phone, I sent in an E-mail explaning my issue. I thought Dell was bringing back customer support to the USA?

I guess what really annoys me about Dell though is that lack of market research they did when designing this machine. Why would you offer WLED screen over a regular LCD when its users prefer color accuracy? I'm not reading e-mails or typing word documents with this. I'm doing tons of web development and photo editing with it. The color accuracy with the WLED is like 70% while a regular LCD screen is 96%. For instance, orange looks like brown.

Cameron,

all you need to do is tell them that u need to speak with someone that speaks english natively and they will transfer u... Whenever I have to talk to Dell that is the first word out of my mouth.
