CNN: It has now been released that Senator Obama has chosen Senator Joe Biden as his VP candidate. Biden is the chairman of the foreign affairs committee.

I don't know how exactly politics gets handled around here, been a long time since I saw it running around, but figured I'd at least let you guys know.

Anyway I'm thrilled as I've been a supporter of Obama throughout the campaign and have also really liked Biden.

I really hope Obama looses, and McCain.

I like a lot of the stuff Obama talks about, but his proposed tax policy just scares the crap out of me. I would also like to know where all this extra money will be going if it's not paying off the national debt.

I just wish there was more support for Ron Paul.

His pick of Biden highlights his inexperience, and lack of confidence in himself. If he truly believed in "change" he would have pick someone outside of the Washington wolf pack or at a minimum someone relatively new not an old warhorse. I'm extremely disappointed in our choices for president this year obama and mccain both do nothing for me. Unfortunately it's going to be a lesser of two evils kinda year. :helpsmilie:

SkiBachelor: I like Ron Paul for nothing else than the fair tax and his belief in less government, but that guy has a serious crazy factor.

Ron Paul definitely is a bit out there but I was hoping maybe he and Gravel would hook up on an independent basis. That would have been a ticket I would have fully supported.

I was just annoyed that NBC cut away from the Olympics to talk for hours about Biden being picked. I think I was going to vote for Obama regardless of the selection, and I would rather have watched some obscure Olympic sports on TV

It's pretty simple really; if you liked the last 8 years vote for McCain, if you didn't vote for Obama. But what really matters is how will the oil companies and corporate giants make McCain president when Obama wins popular and electoral votes :w00t:

Not that I'm a huge fan of McCain but what??? Most republicans hate McCain because he acts like a democrat 60% of the time except when it comes to the war and now drilling for oil. Honestly I could care less about a canidates ties to corporate giants because unless you have a money tree you work for a large corp or a small company that provides a service for or manufactures something for a large corp.

Personally, I've decided to vote for the libertarian canidate Barr.

d) none of the above

I personally lean more towards Obama, mainly because McCain seems to have abandoned his maverick image in favour of what his handlers tell him to act like.

Well, if it makes any difference (and it probably doesn't), he'd look less black if he were photographed with Jesse Jackson.

If race were a real issue (and it probably is) - skierdude may have a point. The black vote and the "business" vote are both needed to win. This pairing caters to both.

Does any of this really matter? How many presidencies have actually run the show? USA, Inc. will continue with business as usual regardless of who is named CEO.

You know this is why I love this forum, because we can actually have these discussions without it degrading to mindless name calling. Also the moderators know that they have a great forum that is generally self policing.

Anyway I'm an Obama supporter. I used to like McCain, and in fact if I had been able to vote in 2000 (I was only 11 at the time, however I was all over the election and followed it religiously) I would have voted for McCain over Gore even though I usually align myself with the Democrats. McCain has ticked me off since he started trying to tow the party line instead of being the maverick that I used to admire him for.

Obama I feel is a better choice, for a variety of reasons, partially because I think he'll bring needed change to a government that has not acted responsibly in my opinion as of late (ie the last 8 or so years). If nothing else I'll take the evil I don't know (Obama) over the evil I do (McCain, as he seems to be more inclined to continue the policies of the Bush administration that I don't agree with). But beyond that I feel that Obama is the type of person who will try hard to change the US in the way he sees is best for the country and these changes align with my beliefs on a general basis so I feel he's the person I should be supporting. Plus Biden provides great foreign policy clout that our country deathly needs.

Anyway....

True, true. Congress runs this country. The president is just the poster-child. In that case, vote for the better-looking one! Therefore, Obama should win--after all, it will be refreshing to have a president that at least half of America will like.

But I have to agree with SkiBachelor--Obama's tax policy does scare the crap out of me.

Obama's tax policy does scare the crap out of me.

WHY, I am not sure or at least I haven't seen a published copy of his tax plan, how can you make this decision without it.
And unless you are making more than I am, all that I have heard will certainly benefit me. If you are in the transportation industry and making more than 250,000.00 yearly where do I go to apply for a job.
I am a totally independent voter, but leaning towards Obama. Armed conflict has not and will not work against terrorism; armed conflict only drives a zealot to further extremes. Let's try other methods; McCain certainly is not looking for other methods. How many billions of dollars are going to fight this war? No, we are at a point that we can not just walk away from it, at least we can scale back our involvement, and keep these billions a little closer to home.
Some of you will say that it was just reported by the state department that we have a handover date of Iraq set! Personally I believe this is a campaign move to look good for the Rep. party.
If the Rep. party prevails in November because of this little bit of news, they will change the decision for one reason or another after November, the timing of the announcement is just too convenient.
