its hard to believe that the place where the detachable grip was invented by vonroll in 1945,they cant even save one of these priceless pieces of lift history.why cant they save them?why does switzerland want these lifts gone??i would love to get one of the vonroll type 101 grips.

In Switzerland, gravity grips are forbidden. It's only possible to actuate this chairlifts with a special permit - but there are very strict regulations. So it's very expensive to actuate a VR101...

The gravity grips (VR101 and Giovanola) can't pass the "rope catcher" when the rope is fallen out of the rope rolls.

Yes, there is the group "PRO SESSELI" (for chairlift in swiss german) that wants to save the last VR101 in Switzerland (the other one in Kandersteg had his last day last sunday :crying: ). The saving of the chairlift at the Weissenstein isn't a question of money (the swiss billionaire Hansjörg Wyss is paying a mayor sum), but the operating company wants to build a new gondola - or nothing.

For me the VR101 at Kandersteg was much more impressionant than the one at the Weissenstein (because it isn't in the alps), but better the one at the Weissenstein than none.

Some pictures of the VR101 at the Weissenstein:

There is no other VR101 in Switzerland! One was in Braunwald (Glarus), but it was replaced by a combined gondola/chairlift last Jahr:

In North America, there are a lot of 4-places-gondolas? In Switzerland there was only one VR101 gondola in Saas Fee, but this one had only cabins for 2 persons...

The Jennerbahn is a 2 passenger VR101 but this installation is located in southern Germany.

Thank you very much for the pictures of the Cedar Point gondola!

If so, it would be in your country. There were never any of the VR101 side-chairs built in the USA.

Wasn't an other one at Lake Louise?

And I think that I've seen a picture of a side chair VR101 anywhere in this forum, that was located in America?
