can someone tell who built this platter?

I am thinking maybe Borvig?

It's hard to tell from that angle, but it could be a Doppelmayr. If you've got any photos that show more of the sheave assembly, it would make an I.D. easier. Or you could call them and ask.

yea, it had some red sheaves like some doppelmayrs do? it looks kinda old regardless!

It's a Doppelmayr, check out the bullwheel. It has those round holes in it. :)

It seems like a bunch of manufacturers put the Borvig-style hanging sheaves on surface lifts (i.e. Poma on Vail's West Wall handle tow)

What year was the buckeye platter installed?
Also when the drive terminal was replaced did they also upgrade the tension terminal.

The Eagle mechanic used to work 'back at the Coop' and told me that they upgraded the drive only. The lift used to be a T-bar, too, which I didn't know. He also mentioned that it might be the one that used to be at Climax ski area, but he wasn't sure.

The 10th mountain was a T-Bar?
If so was it upgraded by Hall?

Some confusion- sorry. I meant that the drive terminal of the Buckeye was upgraded, but it was a T-bar at some point in the past. Yes, the 10th Mountain was also a T-bar, it even had wooden towers and I guess the Ts weighed more than I do and bruised one's legs if the operator handed the T over late. The Hall was an all-original installaton; the T-bar turned into scrap. CTEC ugraded both the drive and return terminals in 2000. I don't know if the original was a bottom drive, although I haven't yet seen a Hall that wasn't.

I see. The 10th mountain was a top drive originaly I do remember that but I dont recall the tension station looked like. I just remembered that the buckeye was at one point not named and was just simply called T-bar years ago when I first started racing but for a number of years I never saw it run. It did run a few years back prior to the rebuild of 10th mountain when it went out of service. Was it Dopp who upgraded the buckeye drive?

Yup. If it really was the original Climax T-bar then it would be one of the oldest North American Doppelmayr lifts, dating from the 1950s sometime.

In the photo thread that you had a pic of the climax mine and was wondering if the slope is still there or has it been mined away?

It's really, really easy to convert a springbox type t-bar to a platter...

Nope, the ski area is behind me from where I took the photo. I'll have to get a pic of it, since you can still see the runs and the liftline pretty well.

certinly seems like it would be easy to convert them. This is the first surface lift that I have run across that has a midway station. What I thought was interesting was that it's set up with a provision for a safety gate for the bottom half so that they only run the bottom half of the lift.

Our T-Bar has a mid station - no safety gate at mid though, it's either all open or all closed. It does have a stop button and phone though, but no operator.

Cooper's is always maned with a shack and has full controls.

Breck's T-bar has a set up kinda like what your T-bar sounds like. At the turn they have a stop button but no station. Probably there in case someone gets tied up on the turn to avoid a really bad accident.
