It takes a crane almost as big as its self to put the first crane together.
Not exactly. This crane is all about height and big lifts, it was built specifically for erecting wind turbines. It just needs a crane to get started then it can self erect from there. When assembling the rotor and lifting it, you need a second smaller crane anyway. It can assemble an 80m tower then take a 70ton wind turbine nacelle and place it on top, All on a very small footprint. It travels on 5 trailers, a comparable lattice boom crane travels on 15 or more trailers. The GTK 1100 is also hook ready in 4-6 hours, the lattice boom takes at least 2 days, and some times more.
I can't wait to see one operating here in the US.

"Maybe there is no Heaven. Or maybe this is all pure gibberish—a product of the demented imagination of a lazy drunken hillbilly with a heart full of hate who has found a way to live out where the real winds blow—to sleep late, have fun, get wild, drink whisky, and drive fast on empty streets with nothing in mind except falling in love and not getting arrested . . . Res ipsa loquitur (it speaks for it self). Let the good times roll." HT
