There have been unsubstantiated rumours of Crystal building a new lift...

Anyone know the status of the White Pass expansion? I know they will be adding those lifts once they can get beyond the Indian and Enviro-Wacko roadblocks....

Any news??

Willamette Pass is installing the fg gondola this summer and Blackcomb is maybe adding a HSQ to replace the Crystal chair? Don't forget about Tamarack, ID.

Haven't heard anything on White Pass, I know they changed the EIS to reflect the new changes since the tree huggers stopped them from building in the other expansion area.

Mt Baker is going to replace Chair 6 (1976 Riblet double) witha CTEC fixed quad. They plan on saving the drive terminal (1996- not that old) and using it for Chair 3 (1968 M-L double), while upgrading that lift to a quad sometime in the future.

Mt Baker will be replacing Sticky Wicket (chair 6) this summer, with another fixed-grip quad... and some people even complained about THAT! They prefered a double so that there would be less people on the hill, and more in line. Go figure.

Scooped you on that one, Bill :---:
Yes, the locals definitely complained when we first floated the idea several years ago. They thought putting another quad in would kill the small-area mystique, or some such thing like that. Thing is, Baker will never lose that aura unless they a) get hooked up to the grid B) build a detachable c) build condos. The area is too funky to ever become a McResort. As far as people on the hill goes- that part of the mountain (the back side of Pan Dome, including Razorhone Canyon) doesn't get that crowded anyway. All a quad would do is empty the maze quicker on powder mornings. That was the only time I ever saw a line on 6 anyway.

Isn't Booth Creek going to update Hyak?

There is some stuff going down in Utah to

a. Snowbird HSQ replacing the Little CLoud Chair (I'm still not positive about this one)

b. Alta HSQ replacing Germania and Collins

c. Possible Snowbasin stuff

d. Next year (hopefully) a new resort right outside of Landor Wyoming will open up.

From Dan Brewster (Snoqualmie mgr), "Hyak will NOT be getting a new chair this year, but is first in line when a new chair is put in at Snoqualmie".

They have been placing flags where the new runs will go when the new lift is installed, but this year they do not want to spend the money. They do have the approval from the forest service so that's ok.....

I didn't really look for the flags so I'm not sure where they plan to put them all. I'm sure they will clear a few, but they do plan to let all those trees on the south half of the face grow (except for where the runs will come through. It will be interesting to see what happens with the Nordic trails when(if) the lift is put in because there is no way they can leave that lower half of the hill blocked off for Nordic since the load area for the new lift is planned to be in front of the Lodge.

i got an email from Stevens Pass and they only have normal maintenance planned for this summer, but said the following summer there are "lodge upgrades and magic carpets" in the plans.

im really curious what type of lodge plans they could possibly have.. .
