After making the mistake of buying a new laptop with vista on it, when my desktop died the next week i bought a Mac Mini with OS X. Love it never going back, now if I can just find a way to kill my laptop so the insurance will pick up the tab  ibook baby!

I really don't have one that I prefer as I have to use Windows Vista and XP as well as Mac OS X during any given day between school, work and home. I have Vista on my laptop and it runs pretty well (no complaints so far). At work all the machines have been running Windows XP without many issues, (there have been a few, but nothing too too big). At school they run Mac OS X on G5s. These are the computers that I have had the most trouble with. These are top of the line machines with 4GB of Ram, dual 2 Ghz processors, with 1 TB hard drives, and many of us working in class have had to wait long periods of time (long being in computer terms: i.e. 20 to 30 seconds) on every computer just to perform regular tasks (Firefox, Photoshop, etc.) that are easily performed on all the other platforms. We do do 3D animation on these machines as well non linear video editing using both Maya and Final Cut Pro. These Macs have had some upsides though, so they aren't all that bad. One of the machines was updated to OS X: Leopard and it did run slightly faster.

All platforms seem to run pretty well regardless of task, but the Windows machines have seemed to be faster than the Macs with comparable hardware and software as well as processes running in the background on both machines. If I had to make my choice for a computer at this point I would only get a Mac for bragging rights than anything else, though if I had the money I may consider getting both.

I don't use my computer for anything to complex so I look at the basics and I don't know about you but my lenovo laptop with vista takes a year and a day to start up and shut down, that's why I leave it on and only reboot when it crashes or slows down to a crawl. My mac starts up quick and does everything I need it to do with a very minimal machine. I never really had a problem with windows 2000 or XP but since they're not supporting those OS's anymore I'm moving on.

I run a Black MacBook with 2GB of RAM and a 250GB Hardrive. I run Leopard on it. I must say, it is an amazing computer! It out preformmy expectations every time! The only problem I've had with it is the mouse button gets loose and starts to click in a funny way. I had this happen earlier, and I had someone at the Apple Store fix it. Took about a half hour and I got a free face plate and scroll pad out of it. This same thing is happening again. I'm just gonna take it back in, as my computer still has its warranty, and have em' do the same thing again! The warranty is great!

I use plain old Windows XP on my home computer and I really haven't had too many problems with it. It starts up super fast and easily runs anything I put into it. My family's laptop is a Macbook Pro, which is one of the best computers I have ever seen. I haven't had a single problem with it and it is almost too fast. If I had a chance to go back a year the one change would have been to get an iMac instead of a Dell for my PC.

I use Mac OS, Windows XP, and Windows Vista and I tend to prefer Windows Vista. It really is just a matter of personal preference.

My dad's computer has Vista on it and I really don't like using it. I mean, I'm sure if mine had it I would get used to it pretty easily, but it's hard to believe that after 5 years Vista was the best they could come up with. So many things are a lot harder to do, and they just moved familiar and convenient things around for no apparent reason so Windows users have to re-learn everything. I'll hold on to my XP laptop until I have to get something else

well my belief is that during those 5 years, the developers at Microsoft were too busy goofing off(for the lack of better words) for 4 years and 11 months, then just winged it a month before the deadline, but don't quote me on that! hehe

I just returned a Toshiba laptop that had Vista, couldn't get one important piece of work related software to load. I purchased XP while they're still available and I'm going to try my first system build with it. Hopefully I can use XP until MS gets a different/better OS than Vista. I used 98 until I switched to XP, so I got to miss the fun of ME and 2000.

XP, mainly because it's what came with the computer. I'd prefer a Mac OS, more robust and les prone to crashing, but I can't afford one yet :(

I've been using XP for awhile and have nothing to compare it with, but it works for me and I'm happy.

I've been a Mac user since the days of the SE-30.

The latest Mac's are, component wise, a high end PC running the Mac OS. I'm still running OS 10.4.11 on a MacBook Pro laptop and am very,
very pleased.

I disliked vista so much I bought a Mac mini running Leopard. I bought the mini as I already had a nice 22" wide screen display that I just bought a few months ago.

I just finished fighting with Lenovo, to get them to send me the XP downgrade to my year old laptop. 2.0 ghz, 2 gigs of ram and still so slow I can't stand it.

I'm running Vista primarily because my computer died hard and fast and wasn't salvageable and Vista 64 came loaded. I haven't had the issues that I did with my first Vista go-round. I think they have fixed a lot of the problems that originally plagued it. 4 gigs of ram and 5 fans plus a standalone video card with another 512 or gig of ram probably doesn't hurt the processing either.

As far as Linux, I run Knoppix (a linux Live that will load to RAM off of a CD) for select tasks and random forays into abandoning windows. I'm about 60% of the way to being able to make a full drop of Windows. Probably next upgrade.
