Well, I have run into another issue with information on the former Keystone lifts! I have used the search box, and was not able to find any information that I needed. When were the following lifts removed: Ida Bell, Packsaddle, Erikson? Those three are all that I need. All help is appreciated. :helpsmilie:

I know for sure Erickson was removed in 1997 when the current Summit Express quad was installed. It has since been relocated, however, where it was relocated to escapes me. Packsaddle was removed in 2003, same year as Sts John, not sure what became of those chairs, I remember hearing Sts John was going to be scrapped. I do not remember the year Ida Belle was removed but I know it was a few years prior.

Ok, thanks for the info.

If anyone does know the date of Ida Bell's removal, please do tell!

Packsaddle was scrapped and I think that all useable spares from Sts. Johns went to Winter Park but everything else was scrapped, save for the two or three towers that were saved to set up a rope evac trainer. Packsaddle did not run the last year it was standing either. Ida Belle was removed in the mid 90's, my best guess is 95-97, I am not sure but for the last few years that it stood it was not in use. There were a few chairs left on the line to allow for evac training but they were in a tight grouping and kept in the lower station.

Skier you beat me to it! If memory serves me correctly it was removed shortly before Vail Resorts completed the buy out of Ralston. But it was long gone before Summit went in. I would say closer to '95.

I have a 1996 trail map with Ida Belle on it, and a 1998 trail map with it gone, but they could have forgotten to take it off the map after it was removed.

Now if my memory serves me correctly (take this with a grain of salt since I would have been 6 years old) Ida Belle was removed in 1997 when Summit Express was put in. That is what I remember, but I'm not entirely sure.

I went with 97' on the site, because, as Skier stated the trail maps worked like that.

Well you can go with what you want but in the interest of correctness it was gone at least 1-3 years before summit and yes a new trail map was not created following its removal. When I get back south I'll try to find out exactly when it was removed.

I know the lift was standing in 94. I think it was removed in the summer of 95.

Also, there are some other things that you need to be aware of if you are using the skilifts.org install sheets. The River Run Gondola's correct length is 9390 feet, not 9080. (Does it really make sense that it would be 300 feet shorter than Summit Express?) This is from the lift info sheet in the top station. The predecessor to the Von Roll gondola was a Yan gondola built in 1984 called the Skyway Gondola. Also, on the install sheet, the data for Montezuma and Peru Express are switched. Peru Express has 700 HP, 6213 feet long, and 1589 feet vert; Montezuma has 800 HP, 6924 feet long and 1665 feet vert. The Outpost Gondola has 197 feet of vertical rise from the Outpost station to the Dercum Mountain station. I don't know where they got the 1198 feet from.

Hope this helps.

Outpost actually goes down and back up, so even though the difference in station heights equals out to 197', the lift itself has more. What's listed is the sum of the drop and rise back up.

We have part of Pack 1 in the boneyard somewhere, supposedly for an evac trainer. It's been sitting there since Keystone tore the lift down so I don't know when we'll actually put it up.

Thanks Skierdude9450,
I am not in need of that info. All I am using is the date of install and/or removal. Thanks for the info.

Yet your data is still wrong. Refer back to the PM I sent you a while ago.

Another question on Keystone lifts: On the A-51 and Discovery chairs, when were the original YAN carriers replaced by the Riblet carriers, and why? For comfort or for maintenance purposes?

I beleive those chairs are the chairs from lift #4 at Breckenridge which was replaced with the Peak 8 Superconnect in 2004. The chairs on #4 had been replaced with new bail-style chairs (previously center-bar chairs) 1 year prior to its removal. To answer the question, the year was 2004.
Oddly enough, I think the original external Yan grips are still being used with the Riblet chairs.

Actually those carriers were new. They had to be custom made to be able to use the YAN grips. If you look at the carriers at breck you would notice that they have a different stem. They were installed in the summer of 2006. They were replaced because they were old and the new ones look much more similar to the rest of the lifts at Keystone. Plus they are more comfortable as well.
