Are there systems for moving chairs from one cable to another such that a rider could transfer his chair from one lift to another lift?

skyeship gondola at K is sorta like that:
has lower and upper sections with a mid-station. lift has the ability to one each independantly (like 2 separate lifts), or connected (like one long lift). if running as one lift, you have the option of getting out at mid-station or riding your cabin to the top.

Mammoth mtn. has the same setup, although I think he was asking, if it was possible to have 1 lift feeding 2.
Never seen it, is it possible? Probably, I’m not sure if it would make any since though. You still need 2 drives so why not put in an independent lift. Aside from that, with your second drive at the mid, 1 system would have to do something really funky, to share cabins or chairs.

There is mid-station information.

Alta ski resort has Collins Express Lift and angle station, which the chairs travel up, get off the haul rope, transfer to other lift to get on the haul rope to go up.

It seems completely possible to me. The only way to keep balance on the lines would be to have a double loading (both with loading at 90 degrees) HSQ or six pack with one passenger line for one destination and one passenger line for the second destination. At the mid-station the plc controller would simply send every other chair to the second destination cable system. From looking at the pictures from Killington all you would need to do is add the second bull wheel and line. The mid-station would be huge and you'd add space on the second line (loosing capacity) so it might be more effective for a large and busy resort to simply have 2 or 3 independent systems. Again I'm a civil engineer not a mechanical so these comments are based on my observations and knowledge, which could be completely wrong.
PS> if you mean having user selectable destination I don't think this would work. Especially if all the passengers liked destination #1 more than #2 chairs would stack up for that location. Again this beer fueled idea comes from a civil engineer that bolted from work early on a friday.
