President Bush stayed overnight at Deer Valley's Stein Eriksen Lodge (located next to Silver Lake Lodge or closer to Sterling Express Lift) last wednesday night. Also he spend few hours at Mitt Romney's home in Deer Valley. I think DV must be proud.

While he was here, President Bush spent the night at the Stein Eriksen Lodge in Deer Valley. Now it's recovering from President Bush's whirlwind one-night visit.

CEO Russ Olsen, said, "He came to this suite which is now the presidential suite!" The President had four bedrooms all to himself but not for luxury. "It's a barrier, the different rooms that were stationed around him. So, it was a protection," Olsen said.

The President's suite included a bedroom, along with a kitchen, dining room, living room with flat screen TV and fireplace, and a great view! But those windows posed a problem. "They actually brought in bulletproof glass. They were on rollers. They put them up against the window here and covered all the windows here with bulletproof glass," Olsen said.

The Secret Service stayed in rooms surrounding the president's. His entourage took up 80 rooms.

The entire courtyard and lobby area were shut down while the president was there, and sharp shooters were positioned on the balcony at all times. With that, the president could rest easy, although he did make a few special requests. Olsen said, "We gave him some chips and salsa prior to arrival. They wanted that in his room. He likes chips and salsa."

President Bush also asked for an elliptical machine in his room so he could work out. "They also asked for a massage therapist to be available in case he requested one. He didn't do that, though," Olsen said.

What he did request last night was a cheeseburger! Zane Holmquist, Executive Chef at the Stein Eriksen Lodge says it was, "a medium-well burger with crispy fries."

While the executive chef cooked the burger, two White House staffers watched. "They were very aware of what the president likes and doesn't like," Holmquist said. "He was happy I think."

Regardless of political views, hotel employees say having President Bush at their hotel was an honor.

Veronica Creech, the Stein Eriksen Group Coordinator, said, "I went up and shook his hand, and I kind of was at a loss for words. Thankfully, he took over for me."

During the height of ski season, the president's suite costs $5,000. The president received a discounted government rate.

I though DV served the 'elite crowd'

I'd always heard that the maintenance people out west like to spend their spare time target shooting weezels and rodents

80 rooms, a discounted $5000 suite...How about just the fuel for Air Force One to fly from... to SLC. Im sure its a everyday event. They could have had a whole Days Inn outfitted with bulletproof glass. I realize he is president, but does ANYONE need that much protection, or that much help thinking and planning on what to mess up next. Is he worried about something? How can a group like this possibly comprehend what $4.20 gas is like, or where the housekeeper making $7hr is staying tonight. Im sure glad I pay my taxes, my 2007 contribution paid for 1 night in a place Ill never stay. Where and when does the fleecing stop. I hope the dictator and his people had a good time on our expense. again.

Go complain to the government about it, and stop griping to its underlings. They can't solve your problems.

So???
Just another another person who puts his pants on like the rest of us, one leg at a time.
And more of our tax dollors wasted. :cursing: Who do you think pays for his room, the fuel for Air Force One,the 5 helicopters, the over time of the local police, etc.
Guess the burger was the cheapest thing on the menu.

Glad he's being forced into retirement.

Although I am no fan of George W, I don't think it is fair to say he is wasting money by having the secret service protect him. It is safer to fly than to drive. It's just part of being the leader of the free world.

$30K may be needed for Bush stay
Commissioner criticizes the president as she breaks the news

Taxpayers might fork out $30,000 for overtime pay for deputies who worked when President George W. Bush visited Park City.

"We have so many different variables when we're dealing with emergencies and presidential visits that come with a week's notice. It is very difficult to budget to the penny what you need," Summit County Sheriff Dave Edmunds said.

Forty-seven county officers were needed to secure the presidential motorcade, Edmunds explained.

"That's right about half of the deputies that I have. It's not budgeted for and it is something that we did not anticipate," Edmunds said. "There is a lot of overtime that was involved and the costs with the equipment that we utilized."

Summit County Commissioner Sally Elliott broke the news to colleagues Wednesday after Edmunds approached her this week.

Elliott, who is a Democrat, said she advised Edmunds "to go out and protect the president."

"Frankly, I don't care whether he lives or dies," Elliott continued at the meeting at Kimball Junction. "Don't let him die in Summit County."

Military helicopters buzzed the Sheldon Richins Building minutes later anticipating Bush's arrival for a fund-raising event in Deer Valley.

Edmunds is a Republican, but said deputies must guard the presidential motorcade despite who is in office.

"The level of security that is engaged in is, without exception, needed," said Edmunds, who criticized those holding crude signs and making hand gestures as Bush passed in the limousine. "It's disgusting. To stand along the motorcade route and hold up signs like that is just classless and embarrassing."

Parkites should expect dignitaries to visit the mountain town more often, the sheriff said.

Edmunds worked Thursday at Stein Eriksen Lodge helping oversee Bush's departure.

"It was a seamless event and I thought all of local law enforcement worked very well together with the federal law enforcement agencies that were here," Edmunds said. "That's a huge project and you're always concerned that things may go wrong."

The work of the Secret Service was praised by the sheriff.

"They do a job that is very impressive. Their professionalism and abilities are out of sight," Edmunds said. "But the Secret Service can't do it alone. It's expensive and fortunately for us were a jurisdiction that doesn't see the president all that often."

Other law-enforcement agencies that participated included Park City Police Department, Wasatch County Sheriff's Office, Heber Police Department, Midvale Police Department, Utah Highway Patrol and the U.S. Forest Service.

He makes to force Utahans pay taxes, and all of us are disgusted, because we are not going anywhere on vacation or travel as "free" as the same as what he had. Thanks a lot! I want him out of white house becuase he loves "wars" and sent soliders away from their families. Silly. I don't want him to have them involve Iran, Iraq, and others. Have soliders stay on their own land, take care of families and watch any wars from other counties, protect America. Save money from pay soliders out there and airforce air planes, bombs, etc. instead of pay importqant education and ski lifts as enjoy sports.

While Bush was here in Utah, No one know where he stayed in Deer Valley and no media at all afternoon and overnight until he appeared in the morning at Park City and flew to SLC airport and left out of Utah.

Holy crap. This is turning into another political whining session. Being critical is very rewarding, I understand. When I am critical, I lead others to believe that I am wise, and know of a better way. But I can never deliver. I don't think you can either--all I hear is whining, and no solutions.
