Thought this might be interesting. The grand opening traffic jam is set for this Sunday.

Floating bridges are big deal here, we have the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 5th longest floating bridges in the world right in the Seattle area. The year after I was born the bridge that connects the Island where I live to Seattle sank because a construction worker accidentally left a porthole open in a storm. Oops!

Would that be the Mercer Island bridge.

Yup, a.k.a. the I-90 Floating Bridge and officially the Lacey V. Murrow and Homer M. Hadley Memorial Bridge (I've never actually heard anyone call it that)

The year after you were born??? My God I'm getting old! :censored2: I remember watching it sink from the park on MI.

Excruciatingly slow. I remember seeing it on the news all day; first they closed it, then the news crews set up camp, the one section at a time was dragged down. Not very exciting for the most part, except when one section flipped as it sank and ripped a bunch of rebar out of the adjoining section.

So how did the Grand Opening go, Mike?
Who was the first "Big Guy with a Walrus Moustache" to cross the new span?

Not I, I steered well clear of that waste of taxpayers money. Today for the first time in history there are two lanes of traffic flowing in each direction. Two on the old and two on the new. By all reports it has been flowing smoothly and quickley.
