It happens all the time - with increasing frequency as age advances... there is "the phone call". Someone is "gone".

Sometimes it's advanced age - sometimes a tragic accident - sometimes, there's nothing that can be said. We're all mortal - and our expiration date cannot be specified. An unexpected termination within my family brought these thoughts to bear.

At such times, a thinking man should consider the affect he is having on the general human effort - that is, positive or negative. Be aware that you will be regarded according to your deeds. Postreity will evaluate you. Think clearly, and guide your actions accordingly - for you will be remembered - in one sense or the other.

This reminder perrtains to our work as well as to our personal lives.
