I had to go in for updated pyrotechnic training today and today they showed us the unedited version of the file footage of the Rhode Island Night Club fire that killed 100 people in 2003.

Wow.
I understand that it was hard to get out because many exit doors were chained.
Why were they chained?
Because there are so many folks who would try to get in through them without paying.

I don't understand that. There are such things as doors that lock only from the outside- they're on public and commercial buildings everywhere. Many of them even say 'fire exit' prominently in red letters.

Such doors can be opened from the inside to let in a friend... or ten. It's happened before.

And normally on such doors there is a alarm that goes off if opened from the inside.......
