So I watched Todd Bertuzzi take out an Avs player last night. This was no check, this was a blatant hit. As a longtime Canucks fan, I was inclined to dismiss the new rivalry as just part of the game, but after that hit, I wonder. Does anyone suppose that Bertuzzi actd on his own, or was it planned? I know Bertuzzi is the Canucks' enforcer, but I can't believe that Marc Crawford would condone such behaviour.

Bertuzzi is a moron. If u have ever met him you'll know what I'm talking about. He never signs autographs, he has fights with his teamates, and his welcome mat at his door step says "go away". I say get rid of him. He has done nothing good this year for the team, frankly I hope he gets charged, although i doubt that will ever happen.

Bertuzzi should go to jail for this. He broke Moore's neck, gave him a concussion, and caused severe facial lacerations on him. If some thug on the street did this to some other innocent person, he would most likely be arrested. He should be banned from the NHL. What he did was worse than gambling on his sport (Pete Rose in MLB)

Absolutley not. One thing that is being reported in the American media I have noticed, is the fact that he broke his neck, which is completley FALSE. He fractured two vertebrates which is far different than a broken neck. It is different than when someone does it on the steet though, by stepping on to that ice surface, you in some way consent to the possibility of injury, hockey is classified as a contact sport, so if you're scared about being hurt, it's not your sport.

I just really don't understand why they are coming down on Bertuzzi so hard? I have seen many more questionable plays that have been dissmised! some not even called by the Ref!! If they want to start a precident they should take in more players and not hold one as a sacpegoat for the Leauges Problems! Also With the lack of Hockey likely to come next year lets turn to watch a True sport like CFL football. These guys are true Athletes!

it's because the NHL is in a very difficult position. They have seen lots of negative coverage in the media lately, (the possible lockout etc) The last thing they need is any more bad press, it could cause them to lose sponsors and fans. that is why they came down so hard on Bertuzzi.

Good article.
If you go to The Fox's site (www.cfox.com) you will find a poll asking whether or not Bertuzzi should be penalised. The results are quite a bit different than if the same question were to be asked be KBPI in Denver...

Hockey is a rough sport but certainly this is over the top.

I'm not going to suggest one punishment or another i just think what he did was not in good taste for lack of better words.
