I noticed there are some missing Big White lift images in the library, so I snapped some while there over Easter weekend 2008. Admins, please feel free to use them on the site as you see fit.

This is the Cliff Chair, named such because it goes right up the face of a big wide sweeping cliff area. I went up the chair, but not down the face of the cliff, which had recently re-opened. It had closed due to an inbounds avalanche with a fatality earlier in the season.

This is the Falcon Chair. It's a pretty doggone old thing, not sure I've ever seen slatted seats like those before.

This is Gem Lake Express. Quite a long ride, but the terrain you get off the top is well worth it. One thing I'd never seen before is the extensive storage/maintenance area at the base where the chairs can be taken offline. In the first two pictures you can see the service gondola; obviously there's nothing needing maintenance at the moment.

This is the Snow Ghost Express, the newest lift at Big White, installed for the 2006-2007 season. Strangely, it runs completely parallel with the existing Ridge Rocket Express, but offloads just a little bit higher up the hill. While riding up with a local, I got the scoop on how it came to be. The owner of Big White made a deal with a hotel developer, selling off the Ridge Rocket parking lot for a future hotel/casino site. Not only did the guy get $2 million for the parking lot site, the hotel developer also paid the entire bill to have the Snow Ghost Express installed, a beautiful shiny new 6-pack. The Ridge Rocket isn't going anywhere but down - it's being extended by moving its load station down and across the main road, next to new condo development in order to keep Big White as a 100% ski-in, ski-out village. Reportedly the offload and everything else is staying as-is.

I guess this is a bit of a p.s... There were already a few images of the t-bar hanging out here, so I didn't upload these previously. And hey, how exciting is a stinky old t-bar? Well, I suppose when you're being dragged up among the snow ghosts, it's pretty cool. So here ya go.

Having built it with my own two hands, it's still pretty exciting. Of course it stinks..........its a Caterpillar !!
