I saw a fixed grip 6 on the Doppelmayr site. I also saw a high speed detachable 8 there. However, I have only seen a high-speed 8. Are there any 8 person chairlifts in North America? Are there any companies besides Doppelmayr-Ctec that make 8 person lifts?

Both Poma and Doppelmayr make 8 passenger lifts, there aren't any in North America though. There is only one fixed grip 6 in North America and it is a Leitner in Ontario, Canada.

Interesting. It has a stabilizing roller on the grips.

Here's a picture of fixed-grip 6 pack built by Poma at La Plagne:

The one in Ontario runs at 380 feet per minute max so I doubt they bump the chairs.

Probably has a loading carpet, too. I imagine the chairs would impart quite a bit of sideway stwist to the rope as they enter the bullwheel, thus the slow speed.

I work at that resort in Ontario, Yes it does twist and swing. There is a loading carpet. the lifte runs slow and the chairs are spaced very close together.

Average Americans can't load a six pack - good reason not to build an 8-person chair.

An 8 pack would be cool. But operatiing one is a pain the butt. 6 people is enough loading and unloading...... I cant imaiage having 2 more to deal with.

On the High Speed 6's at Stratton they have loading gates and the carnage is unbelieveable some days. The whole gate opens and you go concept is apparently lost on most people...

Park City Ski Mountain have few high speed 6 pack lifts. They are Payday, Bonanza, McComkey, and SilverLodge. I think so that is all they have.

You're exactly right Skiing #1

Except it's Silverlode, but no worries! On that note however has anyone yet figured out why PCMR put in a six pack for McConkeys? I mean that lift never runs at full capacity there's just never the demand for it. It always has made me wonder. And if i remember correctly PCMR has the only six packs in Utah right?

There is now one at The Canyons. I've heard that they wanted to have the most six packs of any area in North America so they just made McConkey's a six pack in 1998. 2 other areas, Blue Mountain and Squaw Valley have since tied PCMR but none have 5.

The HS six pack at boyne isn't bad. I've had very few bad experiences on the chair.
