I was just reading up on Silver Mountain, and in reading an EPA discussion about the superfund site, I found out that the Ski Area was originally owned by the City of Kellogg and VonRoll Tramway company (The people who built the gondola). Apparently, VonRoll sold its share to Eagle Crest because they were going through financial trouble.

Kind of strange that a swiss lift company would own part of a idaho ski area.

here is the article: http://www.epa.gov/superfund/programs/recy...cs/bunkhill.htm

That's an interesting article, and one that could be written about Leadville if the cleanup is ever finished...
Poma and Borvig both owned shares in Colorado ski areas at one time, but I believe that was due to the owners defaulting on lift payments. For more info see Brad's website at www.coloradoskihistory.com and look up the lost ski areas of Geneva Basin and Conquistador.

Well Borvig use to own bought Berthoud Pass too.

P.S. JELD-WEN actually owns Silver Mountain; however, it's in Eagle Crest's name because that's their resort properties company. You don't hear of too many door and window manufacturers owning a resort these days. :P

And more of the story…
Jeld Wen wanted to use this land as a destination ski resort. It's right near Klamath Falls where the company first started. Oh don’t know were Klamath Falls is ? …. Next to Know Where which is down the road from Some Where…. Anyway, if after clearing impossible environmental opposition, you finally arrive at the area, this spot would be your last destination.

Link to small part of whole story.

I wonder if Von Roll was going through some hard times in 99 because they changed their name to American Tramways Inc and then sold Silver to Jeldwen.

Klammoth Falls is in oregon, just above the state line. I dont know what the nearest oregon town is, but the next one down south i believe is Weed. Klammoth doesnt really seem that bad for a town in the middle of nowhere.
