Here's another trail map / wiki site:
www.geosap.org
It's mostly focused on Google Earth and generating statistics, but we have been adding historical trail maps and other info.

If one of the mods sees this: could you change the topic of this thread to something more appropriate like "New Ski Maps website" or something like that? My bad for not starting a new topic all together. The current topic name is probably a bit misleading to less frequent forum users right now.

If you want to add maps to the site, it is getting easier, please check this page out: http://www.skiingbc.info/forum/index.php?t...=189.msg511#new
PS: Look at my competing site: http://www.alpineski...zbuh/winmap.htm
I really hate those websites that just plaster you with ads for the tiny bit of poor quality content they offer.
My site is going to have something called quality, without rediculous ads.

You link through from this site (skilifts.org) and then it looks familiar so I thought it was related to Skilifts.org and so entered my login information for this site and it redirected me to a YouTube video. This is HIGHLY SUSPICIOUS!!!
The site should've returned a user unknown message or told you how to register. Redirecting to another site is EXACTLY what a lot of Phishing sites do after they get you.
So I then tried to access the About Us and other pages without logging in again, but there is ZERO information on this site.
If this site is legit and just not ready then it should say so and the login for admin should be a on a hidden page.
There is no good reason why ski maps should be behind a login. You don't actually own the content you're presenting so you should keep it as public as possible.
PS: If anyone is curious you can enter a bogus username / password to see what it does.

However, I think there is some valuable feedback in my reply. Redirecting to a third-party site after a failed login attempt is STILL a valid reason to be alarmed. They really should fix it and provide some better messaging on how to obtain access or if they want to restrict access they should just say it's a private site.

If you want to get a login and username for the site and be a Beta tester, go to: http://www.skiingbc....x.php?topic=189
The reason everything is behind a login is because the pages and graphics are not complete, not because we are trying to hide anything.
And while we're at it, phishing is when you get to a page that looks like a legitimate page and asks you for information. How is a redirect to a YouTube video phishing?

I will change that ok, the point is, for the log in to work, you have to be a registered beta tester as said on the forum...
Redirecting to youtube is not exactly phishing!
egieszl: it would be much more responsable of you to talk with me first before you report this site as a phishing site - which it is not. I could have easily changed things to suit your concerns...
The site is not ready yet for public use, and that is why admin have to log in..
By logging in with a bogus password, you are simply getting Rick Rolled (it is a geeky joke)
How this site looks like skilifts.org I have NO idea... It does say SKIMAP.ORG right at the top....

I have no ill intents with this website, I just plan to provide skiers with a fantastic ski map resource.
Thanks, from Russell, at Skimap.org, and Skiingbc.info.

I appreciate your quick response to my feedback. I think the changes you've made add credibility and offer a better explanation to the end user. I hope you can understand why someone like myself may have been concerned with being redirected to a third-party site on a failed login attempt.
I am very interested in your site and may have maps to contribute to your cause. I was an avid ski map collector in the 80's and early 90's.

The site is nearly ready, but I am going away soon for a while, so the official launch date will remain August 1st 2008.
We have lots of great maps on already, including many hundreds of maps which have never been seen on the internet before!
I think it is safe to say, Skimap.org has the most maps of any ski website online, and maybe even more than Skimaps.com had.
