Boy injured after falling off ski lift

A child fell off of a ski lift this afternoon at Solitude Ski Resort and is now at Primary Children's Medical Center.

Authorities have confirmed that a 6-year-old boy fell from a chairlift he was riding with his brother at the ski resort. The two were in ski school and got about 300 feet up the lift when the 6-year-old boy fell 25 feet down onto hard, packed snow.

Ski patrol took the boy to the clinic, but his injuries were severe enough that he was taken by helicopter to Primary Children's Medical Center. Authorities tell us he has a broken leg and back injuries and that he is in serious condition.

The boy was here with his family from Maryland. At this point, authorities don't know how or why the child fell off the lift.
