Heard through the grapevine that the triple at Big Sky caught on fire yesterday, anyone hear anything about it??? Looks like Big Sky lift mechanics are not having a fun winter.

There are three triples at Big Sky, do you happen to know which one?

The Lone Peak Triple, apparently they lost a bullwheel bearing. At any rate they shuttling skiers to the tram with snowcats.

Ouch! From their website:

The Lone Peak Triple is temporarily closed for unscheduled maintenance. Mountain Operations apologizes for this inconvenience. During the time that the Triple Chair is closed we will be operating Ramcharger, Swift Current, and Challenger lifts an extra 1/2 hour, closing these three lifts at 4:30PM. We have also secured use of a "cabin cat" that we will use to give guests a ride from tower 3 on the Triple to the bottom of the Tram. This cat will be operating from approximately 10:00 AM to 2:00PM. Capacity of this cat is very limited. The Tram and all other lifts will continue to operate on their normal schedules during this time.

I had a fantastic time skiing there a few years ago, however the skiing off the top was delayed for a few days. One day the winds were too strong but the next day the Tram had lost a phase. The Power Company was struggling to get the service restored.

It seems that if it wasn't for bad luck, they'd have no luck at all......

Apparently they got it fixed yesterday, still no idea what was wrong, rumor has it a bullwheel bearing went bad. But it was supposed to open today, except because of high winds half the lifts weren't open this morning.

Yup a bullwheel bearing failed. There was no fire. The triple is now open!
