What are the plans for this year for lift replacement at the Valley and Dollar?

Half dollar and Elkhorn are going High Speed Quad. The new River Run gondola may be going in as well.

I don't know what kind of crowds they get over there, but having 4 HSQs in an area that small seems really unnecessary. Has anybody skied there since they built the two HSQs last summer?

Is the River Run gondola going to replace the chair that's already there, or is it going somewhere else? And what about the Cold Springs replacement? I thought I read about that going in soon somewhere

The River Run Gondola was approved this winter and was expected to go in this summer as of a couple months ago. It will replace the Exhibition lift. Cold Springs is still a couple years off I think.

And yes, Dollar will have 4 high speed quads for its 628 vertical feet and 10 runs. Will it be the only area with no fixed grip lifts?

No, there is actually a ski area in Quebec with only 2 HSQs I believe.

That really does seem like a waste to have 4 HSQs on Dollar.. They could replace Elkhorn, and just take down Half... Replace one of the oldies over at Sun Valley, perhaps Cold Springs, Lookout (not sure if that lift is really needed anymore...) or the Squirrel (ouch, never thought I would say that, I love that lift.. great kissing memory on her)

I don't think money is an issue here. Earl Holding is the 59th richest American with $4.2 billion and he is 80 years old.

Yep, the Sun Valley company had gone crazy with its HSQs. Replacing the Cold Springs Riblet double with a HSQ is pointless! But if they want to blow some money, so be it.

It is not always about if it makes sense to put a high speed lift on a certain section of terrain from a skiing point of view,(if you are in the upper advanced level of skiing) quite often it is only a marketing decision, to tell the customers that there is a high speed lift in our beginner / novice area. Very often it pays off from that respect.
