Sunshine Express

Here are some pictures of Sunshine Express. As many of you know, was the former Tombstone Express from The Canyons and was reinstalled. It uses the same towers as the old Sunshine, as the six-pack at The Canyons uses the towers from the high speed quad. Due to this the towers are quite close together. It also has 90 degree loading, which is the first time I've ever seen 90 degree loading on a Challenger series terminal. I guess it must be easy to convert from conventional to 90 degree loading since Tombstone Express had conventional loading. It is a nice addition to the fleet, and now, that area is used much more due to its great cruising terrain. There was even a bit of a lift line, but it still beats a 13 minute lift ride!!

Technical Characteristics:

Motor: Top
Tension: Both
Number of Chairs: 110
Number of Towers: 21
Capacity: 2400 p/h
Speed: 1100 f/m
Length: 5647 feet
Vert: 1280 feet
Time: 5.5 minutes

Christie Peak Express:

Here is the new Leitner-Poma 6-passenger detachable chairlift, Christie Peak Express. This six-pack was a very good addition to the Steamboat lift system in my opinion. It eases some of the crowd off of the gondola, and also makes for a good beginner lift. It is good for beginners since there is a very slow loading and unloading speed. It is usually run at around 900 fpm for loading and unloading purposes. The chair is also a bit lower than normal, which explains why it doesn't have footrests becuase they would not clear the mid-station. A very big problem that I have seen with this lift is that if the person sitting on the right wants to get off at the mid-station, and the person on the left wants to stay on, it will often result in someone getting caught or falling, which in turn causes the lift to slow or stop. However, it is not as bad as I expected; a lot better than Quicksilver. Unfortunately I can't think of any way to solve the problem with the mid-station. In all, though, it is a great addition to Steamboat's arsenal of lifts, and it does help ease some of the crowd off of the gondola.

Motor: Top
Tension: Bottom
Number of Chairs: 92
Number of Towers: 18, but 19 towerheads (You'll see what I mean)
Capacity: 3200 p/h
Speed: 1000 f/m, but is normally run at around 900 f/m
Length: Not sure yet...
Vert: 1060 feet
Time: Around 5 minutes

Haha, no. I have seen this done on some lifts in Europe, most by Doppelmayr, (I'll find some pictures). But I have never seen this done anywhere in the USA before. The lift is 100% new L-P, with no used parts from any lift.

Tombstone Express was built in 97 and replaced last year with a D-CTEC 6-Pack.

Nice pictures. I noticed in a couple the people 2 chairs in front of you were all the way to the right. They would be in for a nice rough terminal entrance! I have yelled at the people in front of me for doing that!

Well, I don;t think it can really hurt the lift. Those long guide rails that are wide reach the roller and straightens it before it enters. I don't think its necessarily rougher. Over time, I bet it might affect the guide rail though.

Great pics Skierdude9450! Great looking day to ski, eh? :kewlpics:

I just noticed that Revelstoke's gondola has the exact same double tower mast/triple tower head setup at the breakover.
