Haha, the fireworks here started at midnight but immediately stopped working. Then they stopped and started a few times, but only ever worked on one side of the Space Needle! Apparently there was a computer glitch. Now everyone wants to know whether it was running Mac OS or Windows!

""I am ashamed of the people o seattle"

The company that does the Space Needle is one of the companies I worked for. Pyro Spectaculars out of Rialto, CA. My understanding is that they had the contract through 2010, but I could be wrong and they bailed.

The system used is called Pyro-Digital and its a laptop based computer system, and at the time when I was in one of those in charge of the Space Needle, it was running a version of Linux. I do not know if that latest configuration is Windows or Linux based or if they ditched for MAC, but I have a call into my friends that work closely with the company.

But yes, major embarassment and there will be some kind of financial credit for the Space Needle for that blunder. But at least they killed the system and went manual and at least gave the crowd a show. Thats the important thing.

Seattle crews haven't been part of the show since Pyro Spectatculars left the Northwest in mid 90's. They would send a crew from California and used a few selected pyros from Washington State. I stayed on that list until I told them no more in 1999.

I am unaware of a major firework company in North Carolina. Who quoted that?

Oh wait, I saw that dickhead's response on the YouTube comments. I appropriately commented to him.

MAC OS. It was a corrupt file that caused the problem.
