I received a Christmas gift from my girlfriend on trying a new resort. She is giving me the option to ski the following Colorado resorts: Vail, Beaver Creek, Breckenridge, Copper, or Keystone. I would like any input for those who reside or have skied these areas, so I can narrow my decision. Thanks!!!

Well shoot if she is giving you the choice of Vail, there ya go, but if you want to avoid the rich duds, my votes would be for Keystone and then Copper

Does your GF have any single sisters? :shocking:

Tough choice! It all depends on the time frame that you'll be here. I would say either Copper of Vail, depending on your ability level.

Here are some pics of Copper, Breck, and Vail as of this week:

If you're going for a week, you can purchase the Vail Resorts Peak Card which is good at all of its resorts if you purchase a certain amount of days. That's of course if you can hope from one resort to another. It's easy to do between Vail and BC and Keystone and Breck if you don't have a car.

With that said, I would go to Vail or Keystone.

All you need is a multi-day pass at Breckenridge or Keystone (2-day or more) and one of the days is good at either Vail or Beaver Creek. All multi-day passes purchased at Breckenridge or Keystone can have all days used at Breckenridge, Keystone, or A-basin. The Peaks card is a rewards program where you get points for every dollar spent on tickets. It adds up too! Me and my dad just skied FREE at Vail today on our Peaks rewards. The free tickets earned by the Peaks program have blackout date though. They black out tomorrow til new years, and over spring break, etc.

D: None of the above

Try to convince her to take you to Steamboat. Ya it's out of the way, but you get a good feel for a non commercial resort. At least that's how i felt there when i skied it a few years ago.

Thanks for the info, she has already made reservations for the accommodations. She left the mountain choices up to me. I get two days of skiing, so I would like a variety of trails. Being from Utah, I prefer Deer Valley for cruising, but Alta on a powder snow day. Any more insight like parking, where to eat, anything to add would be appreciated.

I would 100% recommend going to Vail. I you have never been there, it is almost mind blowing how big it is. The only thing that is bad about Vail (at least when I went there) is that it is SO big that there will be a lot of terrain that a person would want to ski but cant just because the place is so big that it is impossible to hit it all. Other than that, If you like cruiser runs, I would go to keystone as there are a lot of good cruiser runs there.
As for restaurants, The oar house in frisco is a good one to check out.

Avoid Breck on the weekends... While all of them are crowded, Breck I have found tends to be the worse.

If I may ask, where will you be staying? Will you have a car? What 2 days of the week do you get to ski?

Yeah I'm biased, but I'd ski Copper. We have plenty of cruisers, good steeps, and less people than Breck and Vail. Especially on Saturdays, Breck packs more people than we get into a smaller hill. Vail is so big that if you're only going there for a couple of days you're either going to ski the same couple of lifts all day and ignore the rest of the hill, or ride lifts all day trying to see the whole thing. We're only a couple minutes from Frisco (if you're driving), and the Summit Stage gives you a free ride directly to Copper from Frisco Main Street stops if you'd rather not deal with the car.
Restaurants- I think Sage is referring to the Boat House. I've never eaten there but I've heard it's very good. Also in Frisco, Farley's Chop House serves up excellent steak (Dino- I heard it's the same people who used to run the original Farley's over a the base of old B-lift) and Tuscato's has good Italian (although word gets out and there can be waits there). At Copper, the Incline Bar and Grill is pretty good, and right at the base of the lifts.

Only if you're in a "Slow Skiing Zone", and then you deserve to be "yapped" at. $0.03

...and they're not affiliated with Ski Patrol anyway. They're a separate volunteer department created to take some of the extra work load off patrollers so they can concentrate on their primary job. But yeah, they concentrate on designated slow areas only.

Since you've been to Deer Valley, you have to see the competition in the Annual Best Battle - Vail because...well...it's VAIL! It can serve you for your cruiser or powder fix. Ski it on Friday - pay the $10 and park in the Lionshead Parking Structure - walk to the Gondola (5 minutes), if the line is too long... (aww, PM me if you want more input).
Saturday, ski Copper. (yea, I worked there for 20 years, and it was always a great everyday ski mountain). Great mountain seperation with the steeps on the left and the upper Bowls, cruisers in the middle(Super Bee can eat your legs before 2PM no problem), and easy stuff to the west (right).
Whatever you decide, you'll have a great time. Once you make the selection - that's when the real "secret stashes" will be divulged!

i'm a huge fan of loveland basin, but that wasn't in your selection. i'd do either Vail or BC then.

Sadly, those guys are at all of the Colorado Vail owned resorts, and Copper. They're annoying!! :w00t:

That's their job. Getting pulled over for breaking the speed limit on the highway is annoying too. :offtopic: Now that we've hijacked the thread to complain about Slopewatch- I believe CH3skier was asking where a good place to ski is?
