Well, I frequently see snowmobiles, etc on the mountains at night. I know that snowmakers work the graveyard shift, but I have wondered about whether or not lift mechanics work the night shift as well? Have any of you industry employees worked it for any reason? What is it like and what happens? I have always seen a lot of action on the slopes at night, so I have always been curious!

Some resorts will not allow their mechanics to work on lifts at night, others will encourage it if it is safe to do so. If it is something inside the motor room, then most motor rooms have lights and some are equipped with heaters and such.

I'm sure we've all pulled a night shift or two... especially with "unscheduled maintenance." I worked well into cocktail hour last week!

We don't usually work at night unless it's an emergency either. Obviously areas with night skiing have a couple mechanics on duty for the operational lifts, and I think Keystone does have an official night shift for the gondi crew.

10-4 on that, also our Lift Maintenance Director wants a Sparkie present whenever lifts are open to public at night.
