Hello all,

Is there a website or person i can contact to find out when the last inspection of a chairlift installation was completed?

The quad detachable at Edelweiss (Gatineau, Quebec), seems to have fallin into disrepair and is still being operated. IT has developped a great deal of rust on the towers, and in both terminals all over. They either aren't painting it anymore or it's gotten to the point where it will be replaced soon.

If it is going to be replaced, anyone able to confirm? I had read someplace that MSSI was replacing a quad at Mont Gabriel, maybe they will replace this quad too?

Thanks in advance.

p.s. How long do you guys estimate that the Atomic Express at Mont Saint-Sauveur will stay in operation? IT seems to be running very well. Whats the average replacement timeframe for a detachable doppelmayr (around 20 years or much higher)?

For know, I can't confirm what is going at Edelweiss, but they have changed one of their quads within the last three years. As for the quad on the south side of Gabriel, they are still at a planning stage and have not decided what to do with it yet.

Yeah the quad they replaced actually replaced the short beginners double and the weekend summit double.

But whats the usual duty lifetime for a detachable quad that sees everyday use in winter?

Depending on the weather, use and location of the chair, a well maintained quad, like the one at Sauveur, can last up to around 40 years with doing major structure replacements

Their replacing it by a theoretically faster one, and Sauveur just has to keep up improvements every year

oh forgot to say, the Atomic express is now running super smooth , probably due to the haul rope replacement this summer. But it's making alot of squeeling sounds in the top terminal, probably needs greesing or some oil.

do you know of any other planned upgrades to their stations over the next few years? Any news on the ski terrain expansion near the La Plagne Hill 71 area (la quebecoise project)

I should add that in the lower terminal , the chairs come in too fast and pass the cadencing chain on the turnaround, and sit idle for a bit until the chain catches up. Or, they go too fast and crash into the chain and swing forward violently. It's been bad for the past 3 years but this is unbelivably bad.

Sounds like something you should take up with the ski area or government. Also, if you would like to add to your post you can just use the edit feature rather than posting three times in a row!

I'll try adding nexttime to my posts. thanks for the tip.

Does the cadencing problem sound like something that could compromise the safety or seriously increase wear to break parts? Who can you get in touch with in the government to report the problem?

If most of the installation is rusted, do most places just sand and paint over it or is it toast (and won't last much longer)

LOL aren't there supposed to be sensors to detect incorrect spacing or early entry? Collision detection? (now that was a big problem last year, chairs always crashing into another). SERIOUSLY, don't they ever do maintenance on this thing. LIFT MECHANICs 101, how not to maintain a chairlift.

Start by heading to the lift manager, then the mountain supervisor, and then try the administration of the hill. If all elsee fails, turn to thee Régie du Batiment, adressing it to the chair lift ddeepartment in general, and theey sohould take care of the rest because they are rather strict on regulations and policies. They will follow up on a complaint if it is truly based upon real data.

Depending upon which manufacturer the lift is, it's a pretty simple fix to change the top chain speed so that the chairs don't sit idle, as you say, in the turnaround. Does this lift operate in the summer?
