Did the lift in the damaged building get destroyed? Is it still running?

To me its a miracle anyone came out of there alive even that lady that was pulled out five days after the slide. 1982 was a bad winter here in St. Louis as well we got hit with 2 and half feet of snow in January.

That lift is was an old Riblet Double Chair. The bottom load and bullwheel area was retrofitted by Lift Engineering after the accident and ran a few more years until it was replaced by a YAN Detachable Quad. When the YAN Detach Lifts had issues, it was ripped out in 1996 and replaced with the current Dopplemayr Six Pac.

Ironically, that storm of 1982 that created the avalanche at Alpine paled in comparison to the Easter Weekend storm in 1983. After that storm, the lifts at many resorts were literally going through what seemed like tunnels because the snow was so deep in some places (and, no, this is not an exaggeration--the Reno Gazette-Journal has an archive photo of a NDOT loader sitting on top of a snowbank that covered the Mt. Rose Highway next to Mt. Rose Ski Resort and one could fit two loaders underneath it).

I saw it on the History Channel last week on Wrath of God the episode also talked about the Donner party and a train called the City of San Francisco that got trapped by an avalanche in 1950s All three stories were in the Sierra Nevada area.
