Theres a place for all of God's creatures, right next to the mashed potatoes.
"You could say that a mountain is alot like a woman, once you think you know every inch of her and you're about to dip your skis into some soft, deep powder...Bam, you've got two broken legs, cracked ribs and you pay your $20 just to let her punch your lift ticket all over again"

I was at Ski Brule, MI on Friday for their "We're open/Customer appreciation days" free skiing day. Conditions were actually probably some of the best opening day conditions I have ridden in the Midwest.

They hope to open up during Thanksgiving Weekend and are praying for snow to come with the storm that is to arrive on Sunday. The temps on Monday thru Wednesday are to be in the mid- to low- 50s in Reno, so this equates to about high 30s to low 40s above 7000 feet. However, if the low temps in Reno are due to valley inversions, then all bets are off whether the Tahoe resorts will be able to open decent runs for Thanksgiving.

The Bush is only opening for the weekend and then closing until Wednesday I believe. The opening is in honor of Stein Erickson who will be honored at the New England Museum Banquet on Saturday night.

Good thing they're honoring him up there, it doesn't look like Deer Valley will be in any position to honor him anytime soon. There isn't a natural flake shown on the webcams in Park City right now, but Alta and Snowbird look better. The Canyons pushed back their opening date, although it seems like the snow is the least of their worries right now. Alta: "Our optimism for a November 15th opening hasn’t been supported by Mother Nature." Let it snow! It's comforting that Solitude's open, even though there's only two runs

Unless the weather pattern changes and temps drop (I'll believe it when I see it), Mammoth may be the only resort in the Sierras open for Thanksgiving (Broadway Express with one run).
It may be another dry year in the Sierras!
