Why is it that so many things are put off until the threshold of the season? As soon as frost forms anywhere, the phone rings constantly. Stuff that has not been right for years often becomes of chief importance at this time - and people like me get stretched pretty thin.
Seems to me that some resort policies need changing.

There are three roads to ruin; women, gambling and technicians. The most pleasant is with women, the quickest is with gambling, but the surest is with technicians. Georges Pompidou

typical around here too--don't do today what can be put off 'till tomorrow. Bureaucratic mentality at work.

One thing that I have learned.

You take one item at a time and SCREW the rest til YOU CAN deal with it.

The problem I keep seeing is the fact that most of the higher-ups don't realize the amount of work that is done during the "off?" season. Lifts, a little grease and turn them on, right? Lights, they worked last year. Snowmaking, did'nt use it so there are probably no leaks and the power is all good. The problem here, even with 'budgets', is that money that is allocated for ski maintenance is used else where. "Can you wait till next month for that?", a popular statement. Every year is the same, the final touches that we should be doing this time of year to finish things up are over looked by those projects that should have been done by now. Guess its always been like this but it sucks for us. Job security, I guess. I get thinking about whats left sometimes, get worked up, then remember, I can only do so much, and what does'nt get done wasn't my fault because of a lack of supplies. Most of us do a good job of maintaining things with very little, mgt only sees that the lifts ran and snow was made and then questions why you can't do maint. next year on that same budget. We've done too good of a job, maybe they expect to much. Seems to me that some resort policies need changing. I totally agree, but how? A Presidents Day walk out??
