stupid :censored2: :cursing: rodents are EVERYWHERE here! The other day I was checking the oil on my dad's truck (it will be my winter transpo) and the rotten little bastards had stashed a crapload of :cursing: acorns on top of the engine! I know they're storing food for the winter (maybe it's a sign of a good one??) but they can find another place to store their stupid nuts! Next thing I know they'll be chewing on the wires and then I gotta explain to my dad why the truck won't start! Last year the little boogers would tear pieces out of the hoodliner on my car to build nests and stash stuff. Any ideas on how to keep the stupid things outta my engine?? :helpsmilie:

needless to say I had no bad feelings about runnin' 'em over with a 7-ton truck this summer  !

"Any ideas on how to keep the stupid things outta my engine??"

Leave it running.

Around here it's "rockchucks" - a localism, I think, for groundhogs. They're big and they're destructive to all things chewable. The underside of my car hood looks like the engine exploded at one time.

They're cute though. Neat personalities.

 not exactly an option with today's gas prices! And I don't want squirrel guts all over the engine!

Here we call California ground squirrels "Yosemite rats". All they are is a giant rat with a bushy tail!

Put some mouse traps in there, if they don't get stuck in them, it will sure as heck scare them.

We've had a cat in our spare tire area underneath our car driving down the road.

You could try duct-taping a cat to the air cleaner...

Seriously, how about mothballs in a mesh sack? I would imagine you only need to keep them away for a few more months 'til they find another place.

Buy a pellet gun and pop them in the rear every time you see one going in there.
My name doesn't mean I ski a lot. It means that I'm big, and I'm a skier.

Just don't hit key parts of your engine with that gun!

said it before in another topic last year. To fix red squirrels, ground squirrels, grey squiirels etc put out a pan of water deep enough that they cannot touch bottom with sides high enough they cannot climb out. Fill the pan with water and place a piece of wood across the middle. Place a small floating container of nuts on the surface of the water. the squirrels will investigate and fall in. remove dead critters daily.

other ideas. Buy a small bag (several ounces of cloves) , soak in water for a few days. Spray this brown colured solution in areas where squirrels are not desired. The squirrels do not like the smell of this stuff.

I know this is an old topic but I use a modified method I love to call the bucket of death. I take a 5 gallon bucket filled 1/2 full with water and place striped sunflower seeds inside. You need enough seeds to cover the entire surface, the smell of the soaking seeds will bring the little guys from the neighbors yard sometimes I can get 4 to 6 a day during the spring. I just move the bucket of death around in the yard every 4 to 7 days so they don't get used to it. At my old house by the end of summer I had "disposed" of every critter in our entire sub!!
