Hello all,

I recently spoke to a customer service rep at the main pavillion at Saint-Sauveur, and they told me that this year, that they were making new trails and a new chairlift to service them.

They have shown this on their trail map for the past few years. Is construction currently in progress to open this season or in several years from now?

The person i spoke to said it was happening now. Anyone know any details or can confirm?

Thanks

I was there last week and didn't see any thing that looked like a new lift, but I was only looking from the parking lot.

Mmm.. interesting that someone actually told you this.

When I went there this summer, I looked at the zone on which they planned to expand for the last 8 years, and I couldn't see any improvement over the past years.

Are they finally putting their serious into it?

What about their Edelweiss station in Gatineau? How does it rate? Any improvements there? I heard that their doppelmayr detachable there is extremely slow. Any truth to that?

The detachable quad at Edelweiss is slow because that is how the chose to run it. Having been implicated in installing this lift, it can and should run at normal speed, they take the decision as to what speed they run it. As for Saint-Sauveur, they are only changing the cable on the detach quad, Atomic Express, and a new lift might be in the picture for next year, although for certain, they are changing the quad on the south side at Gabriel next summer.

And the answer is "NO" getting close though, then again it has been for some years.

Why would they choose to run it so slow? Any advantage? Why have it if it isn't going to operate at full speed? Also, I've been looking at pictures and there is a Arch shaped sheave train tower halfway up. Why is it made that way rather than a regular pylon tower? It's like a upside-down U shape that the chairs go through.

If this lift ever needs replacing, do you think they'd go for another detachable or just fixed grip?

One reason could be (not knowing the mountain / not looking at trail map) It could be newbie chair and they want the chairs to "crep" though the load and unload terminal.

Good point, but no, it is THE main chair at this ski centre.

This specific quad is only two or three years old, MSSI is not ready to be changing that lift anytime soon

No I've been refering to the Detachable quad, which was installed in 1987.

MSSI has no current intention to change any lifts on their hills in Quebec, at least until next summer

Nono, i'll i'm asking is what are the odds of them (when it does happen, years down the road) of them replacing this detachable with another detach rather than a fixed grip?

Last thing...

Still talking about the Detachable quad at Edelweiss...

Plus word has it that they have received a new computerized snow making system by TechnoAlpin. I read aobut it in a press release from MSSI posted on www.zoneski.com.

I think these towers are less expensive to build than regular "half-cut" towers, and more efficient on uphill-only depression cases.

When you say a new lift may be in the picture for next year, is that for Saint-Sauveur?

Also, for Gabriel, is it 100% that they are getting a new lift? Will they remove the triple and t-bar or just put the quad next to the triple?

any other details at this time?

Are they going to develop the freestyle acroski area across from the parking lot as well? They seem to have a rope tow of some kind there.

And the actual world cup, will it stay under the quads or move the the trail to the right?
