Because then I would have to walk both ways under the lift, which is pretty dangerous. The erosion has gotten so bad that I would not want to go down the loose dirt. Once at the top it is really easy to just go over to the summit and down the access road to the lodge.

Are you hiking alone or with someone? Best to hike with a pal, in case something happened.
