Most of the time, it's actually sort of funny in a pathetic, ignorant kind of way. Years ago, we had to do a lot blasting for a new lift line. It's several miles out from the point where you can drive 4x4's so we used Bombardier Muskegs to transport people and supplies. I was driving one of them and had to go pick up one of the guys from the blasting outfit and take him and all his stuff out to the line. When I got there, he looked at me and said, "There's no way in Hell, I'm getting on that thing with some little girl driving." He argued for a good 10 minutes before his boss convinced him he had no other choice. Once he finally shut up and sat down everything was fine and he even apologized and offered to buy me drinks at the end of the day. Unfortunately, I wasn't old enough at the time because I would have loved to run up his bar tab.

Did you try to "'splane it to her, Luci?"
I hope you truly didn't miss out on this location because of your genes.

You said it, Mike! I've always had a knack for mechanical things. I'm hoping to be a lift mechanic soon!

"Incident Commander Jeanne Pincha-Tulley takes a moment to relax and explain how she ended up in charge of the 1,670 firefighters working the 46,000-acre Castle Rock Fire in Sun Valley. The Alabama native is the first and only female out of the 17 interagency incident team leaders in the nation."

I called another company today about repairing a piece of electrical equipment. When the guy asked me to explain what the problem was, before I could even say anything, he says, "Wait, wait, nevermind. I'm assuming you're the secretary and probably don't even know what this equipment is used for?". And then, after he realized that I was not the secretary and that I did, in fact, know what it was used for, he kept calling me "kiddo".

Someone (Male or female) being ignorant of your knowledge or your ability is one thing but anyone discriminating against you because of your sex is against the law. FIGHT FOR YOUR RIGHTS.

Yup, you are right Ace. In Canada I have my class 1A (truckers licence, semi truck, commercial licence, whatever it is whereever anyone is) and there are so many female drivers that could outdrive and outwork the best of some of the men. I worked in Fort McMurray, Alberta, the oil sands, this is where they have the biggest trucks in the world, like the Cat 777 and Cat 797, the 797 being a truck that can haul approx. 400 ton! And there are many women drivers up there on this equipment. One of the best dozer operators we had was a women. Some people just have to get over this men are better at everything bs and realize that it isn't the 40's and 50's anymore.

In context, I meant that the gender of an individual has little bearing on what one is capable of.
I'm still pissed that in the member details I can only choose Male or Female where it says sex. I wanted sex to show the same as I fill out all other forms........... "Tuesdays"
I don't mind having fun poked at me !
