I just put Sony because that's what I have. Macs are nice, but they're expensive, and the parts are hard to find. Plus, most programs are only Windows compatible.

The latest Macs are the best PC's made, that is their high speed, dual processors, will run Windows and Mac OS.

Wow, that's amazing.
My name doesn't mean I ski a lot. It means that I'm big, and I'm a skier.

Its all custom built for me, I may consider an apple in another few years but for right now the programs I use and simulations I run won't work on Apple.

I was looking for a laptop in XP, but they only seem to come in Vista now. Well the reason for the laptop was to run a program called Solidworks. But it doesn't run with Vista. So I'm still looking for a computer with XP on it.

Why couldn't they of come up with "Global Cooling"?

Why don't you just buy a new laptop with Vista on it, re format the hard drive (making sure you have the driver backups for all the components) and do a fresh install of XP? I know a handful of people that have done this because they couldn't get the machine they wanted with XP on it.

You should e-mail or call Gateway and ask if XP is still an option, because it was until this week. The only reason why XP would have been removed is because Vista service pack 1 has fixed a lot of the annoyances with Vista.

I'm facing the same problem as you and don't want to buy a lot of new software.

I'd choose Macs 'cause they're easier, but truthfully i hate and love all computers about the same!

custom built from the ground up for me!
And of course only using AMD processors. (I use both Nvidia and ATI graphics depending on the chip set my board has or if I am using AMD's spider platform)

How about the Panisonic Toughbook series. Sort of spendy. I would like to get one someday. Military spec with a machined titanium case. Some models are fully waterproof.

I like the new Apple laptop with no hardrive. No boot-up instant on. Hardrives will soon be dead which is nice. One less component with moving parts to fail.

My favorite OS is good old windows 2000 pro.

I have got to say, Apple is looking better by the day... Especially with those new Macs that have 2 server grade processors in them... Plus the Air is cool too.. Its all much too expensive for me thought..

I have a Dell Inspiron E1505 w/ Vista. Sometimes it's a little slow, as Vista's a memory hog, so one of these days I'll upgrade the memory.

forget upgrading the memory, get Ubuntu Linux, its way faster than vista plus its free!

Better yet, downgrade to XP, that'll speed it up since Vista stands for the following

Viruses
Intruders
Spyware
Trojans
Adware
