Hi all,
I have a strong desire to work within the ski lift industry as an engineer. Whether this would be in an office or an on site engineer when one is being built, I am not fussed, I just want to get in the industry!
Problem of course.... I am an Australian citizen and there is no ski lift industry here!
From you guys who know more about the industry than I do, what possible avenues could I take?
Is my only option to knock on the doors of Poma & Doppelmayr and their local distributers around the world?
Do the manufacturers carry out the installations or are there other companies which specialise in this too?
Any info on how the industry is structured and how I may be able to get employed would be greatly appreciated. I have a Bachelor in Mechanical Engineering and speak French.
Cheers! Tim
Would like to enter ski lift industry.

Hi Timmy,
Here's my input. Your best bet would be to send your resume to Leitner-Poma and Doppelmayr-CTEC here in N.A. Your should then try to follow up with a visit to each when its possible for you to travel to N.A. or at least a phone call a few weeks after you send your resume.
You may also want to send a resume to POMA-France, but my experience is you probably won't hear back from them. They do have an EXPORT Division that deals with systems sold "overseas" and your language abilities may help in that respect. Once again, follow up with a phone call, as you speak the language.
Most of the engineering and installations in N.A. are handled in-house, but there are a few independent installation companies. They generally do not do their own engineering - they get it from the manufacturers.
I hope this helps - good luck!
