I went biking over at Keystone today, and took a bunch of pics! Sorry for the lame pic quality. I am on dial up right now and didn't really feel like waiting for large image files to upload. If anyone would like to see these in a higher quality and size, I will be home on Friday, and can post them on my Highspeed internet, which I really miss... Here are a few of the pics:

Since a couple years ago, they haven't run the gondola in the summer. There was too much wear and tear occurring and not enough time to maintain it. That gondola is quite old, so they just decided to only run it in the winter. So, in the summer the Summit Express (right next to the gondola) runs with mountain bikes and foot passengers. It is a nice ride actually. Very long though!

thanks for the pics! Also, when will the new gondola that starts across the river be installed? Anyone know. Or is that now scrapped?

To say that the gondola doesn't run in the summer is an overstatement. I was at Keystone early this July and they had both the gondola and summit express running. I have no idea why they would run them both but they did. Perhaps this is something that only happens during peak times in the summer? All I know is that they ran it for at least one day so you can't say they never run it in the summer.

Hmm..... I guess I have not heard of it running in the summer. Like you said, it must only be at peak times.

Maybe summer of 09'. Not really sure though! They could use a new system.

I've never been there, but it looks like a good place to visit. I'll put it on my "ski areas to go to" list.

Choose a very un-crowded time to go, because Keystone can be a lines nightmare if you choose a peak time. mid-late January is usually good though. December before the holidays is also good. Keystone is quite fun, but can get crowded.

Ya I've been to Keystone 3 times in my youth and the last time I was there they had the Summit Express. I enjoyed riding that just because I didn't have to take my skis off. It's been awaile sine I've been there though, last time I was there I rode the Sts. Johns lift! I remember the first time I was there they also had the Ida Belle lift. What ever happened to that, when was that removed?

It was removed along with Erikson the same year as Summit Express was put in, so 1997. I don't ever remember it running, and it looked as though it hadn't run in 10 years. And that was 10 years ago! They've removed a lot of lifts off the front side. Packsaddle I, Erikson, Ida Belle, and Saints John. I'm thinking that there might be more. I'm quite surprised that Argentine's still there.

Judging from the trail map, Argentine is a good (albeit slow) way to get from the Mountain House base over to the east side runs off Montezuma. Those who've skied there might know for sure?

Yes, that's true about Argentine. The best thing on the front is probably to make laps off Montezuma b/c the runs are nice and long, although the front side is generally for beginners and those looking for more quickly go to the outback or north peak.
