A desert is not only detirmined by the temperature but also by the percipitation. Colorado and Utah are very dry climates and as such much of both states are concidered montaine or temperate desert.

I know it is fairly dry in Colorado and Utah, even though it rains in the Colorado mountains around 3:00 daily!!

It does frequently rain in the afternoons, not daily, but it doesn't amount to much percipitation total.

Too hot here in VT. I mountain biked at mt snow this past weekend. I have to have some excuse to ride the chairs in the summer! Sugarbush opens saturday for mtn biking, so do most of the others that spin in the summer. Magic is having biking this summer but their opening has been delayed. I hiked around the old high pond ski area this morning, took some pics that I should have up at some point. Last week I hiked around Cockrans ski area and took some pics. Look for some old t-bars in the near future in the images section.

Clearing Artist's Point at Mt. Baker yesterday:
Attached File  snowplow.jpg (38.29K)
Number of downloads: 18
It will take crews a month to clear the 2.5 miles of road on the Mt. Baker Highway, just past Mt. Baker Ski Area. At the ski area it is 6 feet deep and at the top of Artist's Point it is 20 feet deep!

Actually Lift Kid is pretty accurate about there being rain every day. They're just isolated thunderstorms that last for ten minutes or so. All in all, you get about .10 inch each day, so it really doesn't amount to much. But the little bit of rain that you get really sucks because it drops down to less that 50 degrees when it rains. The snow's pretty much gone. You have to hike to 11,000 feet to see any. Anyway, last week was a good one to spend in Dillon. It was over 100 for most of the week in Denver.

PoloX, is Ketchikan really the raniest city in North America?

There is snow at about 5000 feet in the Cascades. At Mt. Baker there is a 240" (20 foot) base at Artist's Point at the 5140 foot level.

When I was in Colorado last week, we did not see any rain or even clouds for that matter. Just a nice week of nice sunny weather!

You and lift kid have lived in colorado less than alot of us but yes frequently it will rain in the afternoon but not daily as both of you are stating. Over the last month there has only been 11 of 31 days that there was percipitation in denver at the weather channels station. But im Done arguing over something this silly that some people seem to be experts on when they havent lived in Colorado for that long.

And yes Ketchikan is the rainiest city in North America with an average rainfall of 13.5 FEET of rain, or 162 inches. Thats about 3-4 times what falls on Seattle.

Seattle is not even close. It really does not rain that much here, it is however cloudy and dark all winter which makes people think it is always raining.

Yeah I know that it doesn't rain that much but I just use it as a comparison because its where people think of rainy weather. In fact I have only once seen rain in Seattle, out of a half a dozen times I have been there.

Sorry for the misunderstanding, but I wasn't talking about Denver. We haven't gotten rain here for weeks! The grass is burning up. It's horrible. I was talking about Summit County, where you can expect a quick isolated shower for a few minutes quite regularaly. Anyway, I'll leave it at that.

I was referencing somewhere closer to home for you but Breckenridge and Summit County is still the same number in the last month.

Again you are wrong but we will let you hang on to your delusions. I'm done here.

The best part about the longest day of the year is that it is the beginning of the end! I took a sunrise hike at Okemo and took in the sunrise from the deck of the summit lodge. Well worth the 3:30 wake-up!

btw...no evidence of any progress on the loading carpet on the south ridge quad a or b.
