Anyway, that's true that you hardly feel anything at all with the AG-104 grips. The Beaver Creek D-CTEC's are some of the smoothest I've ever been on. The Poma TB-41 grip varies on smootheness lift-by-lift. I'd say though that the Omega T-grip is equally as smooth as the AG-104. The worst for bumpiness that I have been on is the Garaventa AK-4.

I think that the newer Doppelmayr stations are a LOT smoother than the older Uni style terminals. The older stations jerk the chairs around a lot when the grip is being attached or detached. I believe it has something to do with the locking and unlocking of the mobile jaw. Also, the chairs are really light-weight. You really notice it when the chairs rattle and shake going over towers. I still LOVE to ride the older Doppelmayrs and the newer ones too!!

You brought up a good point. The smoothness is all relative to the load on a chair. A fully loaded chair is much more likely to be a smooth ride, especially over depression assembelies. A relatively unloaded chair will be shakier over the sheaves.

It's not really a problem on POMA's because the chairs are so heavy.

However, TB-41 grips rattle while the DS Series grips hardly rattle at all. Some part of the spring on the TB-41's are to blame for the noise, while the torsion bar keeps the DS quieter.

Doppelmayr's DS grips use cup springs. The DT grips use torsion bars.

Also, when comparing jaw sizes on different grips one should consider whether the rope diameter is the same. Larger diameter ropes should have larger jaws (both clamping diameter and length).
On the subject of smooth attaching and detaching, its possible for the coupling areas to be out of adjustment. This can be caused by terminal sheave liner wear and that can contribute to a jerky "launch" in any type of detachable.

Let's put it to you this way. I like each brand of lift. Each one is different.

Enough Said. :)

From an operator stand point. I like the Older ctec detach systems over the newer more complexed systems.

IE chair 10 and 16 old style. And Chair 15 new style. (at bc)

What needs refurbishing? They're only ten years old. Shouldn't be much in the way of refurbishing to do on them.

Well because of those grips that make the chairs rattle like mad on the lift line, that is just me fantasizing. Chairs don't even have pads, they are just plain hard where as the REX has coushining. Probably that is the only thing that needs to be changed out is the chairs but would you have to do anything to the terminals to accomadate a different type of grip?

There is nothing wrong with them. The Doppelmayr chairs have that closed cell foam "padding." Many resorts, like Big Sky put real pads on top of that to increase comfort. The disadvantages of that are the chairs can not flip up at night. Big Sky does not get nearly the amount of sticky snow we get so it is not as big of a deal. The seats on Rex do not flip up and are always covered in snow and ice. I much prefer a dry seat that is a little harder and rattles than one which is soaking wet.

While Jan would be gratified by your enthusiasm, even he would suggest that his lift technology is becoming ancient history.

During "the good years", he made stout well-thought-out machines and people liked them - even me. I also like DeSotos and Studebakers - but neither would make a very good modern taxi.

True....without his technology the industry wouldn't be where it is today. I'm just someone who likes old stuff--heck, I still drive the same car I got when I graduated high school in 1988; 213,000 miles and still running strong with the original engine.

im a die hard vonroll type 101 fan.most lifts now days look the same.they are all good.but vonroll type 101s were different in all of there locations.from there side chairs,to there amusement park skyrides,vonroll type 101s are not all built the same like most lifts.they have there own sound,fun to ride on and most of all the gravity launch is pretty cool.sorry,love the old vonroll type 101s.a old reliable.....

Looks like the bubble lift out of Grenoble France going up to the Bastille.

I was curious as to why you were going on about your VR 101.. now I know!

thanks.they are a one of a kind lift.no 2 are alike .lifts nowdays look the same.no characture.even all of there towers look the same.even gondola lifts made by all the modern day manufactures.they all look the same.the texas state fair skyway for example,looks the same as a doppelmayr gondola at a ski resort.like my lifts with charature...
