I learned several things on our company field trip yesterday:
High Lonesome Express- was originally a fixed quad (Poma 1985) but was converted to a detachable in 1992 or so. That explains the old line machinery and chairs with the newer terminals. I had though they simply replaced the old detach terminals with new ones.
Timberline lift- was originally somewhere else on the hill (I didn't catch where) and was redesigned and rebuilt in-house in 1992. I think it may have been the old Olympia lift. Because it was an in-house project, they were able to modify the original Heron machinery to suit their needs. For instance, the top terminal sits on an exposed, windy ridge, so guidage was added. Second, the original Heron drive terminal was a vault, but there was no desire to dig a pit; the result was a new overhead drive motor room which sits on the old tension terminal, and the drive terminal was modified to be a return idler. Third (and this is minor, but I thought it was cool) the tower numbers were a shop project wherein one of the new guys practised his torch skills by cutting them out. The numbers are made in an old-school font that you might find on a saloon sign from 1883.
Outrigger lift- someone had posted on the forum that it was scheduled to be torn down. My counterparts just got the word last week that they need to bring it back up to specs and have it ready to run, because it's not going away. The shop is pretty unhappy about that.

i don't think it could be the old Olympia lift. Cuz the hsq was installed in 1996.

wow, cool...i talked to poma about their detach quads, the pioneer (like you suggested) and summit expresses were alpha fixed quads converted to detaches. I got word the other day from TCS that the timberline double was originally installed at stagecoach as the 'big hitch' double. it was later sold to silvercreek and ran there for about 10 or so years. finally it was brought to wp in 1991 and opened in 1992. its drive terminal came from ski sugarite in southern colorado. what a history!!! that's what i like! That's interesting stuff! Oly was just a guess, not knowing when the detach was built. Summit was not a fixed Alpha, I did learn that. It was built as an Alpha-drive detach to begin with, as well as Pioneer. What kind of lift did Oly replace- anyone know?
I wonder if Stagecoach will ever reopen...

Oh Stagecoach, Brad and I had some fun last year trying to get a trail map of the area for his site, because no one had one. So I sent out a huge mailing to all the people that were on the stagecoach comity, and we received some responses from people. We did get a response from one person who actually had a trail map and made a photocopy for brad and the Colorado ski museum. Then the other one was from Chris, the owner. He totally didn't answer the question what I was asking and told how it was on private property, and he didn't want anyone trespassing, when the e-mail was about getting a trail map. I kind of have a feeling that Stagecoach will never reopen because the dream losts are like 2 million each. Just think how much he would sell the mountain property for?
