I remember back when I was 10 or 11, our church Scout group took a trip up to Alta to ski for the day. I thought it was very nice, but not quite as nice as my Snowbasin. One memory in particular that stood out was the lift Wildcat. The scenery riding up her was very beautiful and I thought it was impressive on how during the climb the return line seemed about 30 feet (I am sure it is shorter) up high in the air compared to the upward line. Made me wonder as a little kid if a tower had been knocked down or some type of accident occured and they were just running until they could get another tower installed. Very impressive. Also had my first expierence with a rope tow! Watch those fingers!

I wonder if that thought is common among (mostly new) skiers: that the lift could be malfunctioning in some way, or, "I hope this thing doesn't fall apart" or something. I guess it's a though that really never occurred to me, until I actually worked on one. Did anybody else have these thoughts when they first began?

Lucky, JustJeepIt: your church scout group got to go to Alta. I can't complain; my "church scout group" got to go to Deer Valley-- converted us all to the church of ski bum (a non-exclusive fraternity). We had to make sure people understood it was "unofficial," because the young women started complaining that they didn't get to go. Nevertheless, we will always be the Lindon 8th Ward Ski Bums. We'll work our way to Alta later.
