Hey folks,

anyone remember the name of the lift that used to service the old Alpine Slide in the summer? Also anyone recall an accident back in the mid to late 80s where a Helicopter crashed into one of the lifts there at Park City?

Is that Alpine Slide still going? Is it worth going on?

Why couldn't they of come up with "Global Cooling"?

Yes, they will open on May 25th for noon to 8 then June 1st noon to 9 October only weekends.

I remember there was a fixed grip lift on right side of the mountain for Apline Slide. It was Payday. Now its new high speed lift "Payday" on the old gondola lift place, and it stands on left side of the mountain. it is soooo slow speed for only summer time. For winter, it speeds up fast.

The Payday six pack has a midstation for alpine slide unloading in the summer. They lower depression sheaves and bring the line down to the ground. It goes really slow in the summer. The alpine slide is pretty fun, they just built two new tracks a couple years ago for a total of four, but the two older ones are faster.

The old Payday triple started on the other side of the base area, where the Ziprider is now. The Ziprider follows the old Payday lift line, and starts where the Payday midstation is. The new Payday six pack still ends in the same spot as the old triple, and the gondola mid station is still there, a little farther down the hill by the Bonanza lift

Floridaskier...that is perfect. I will post a few pictures of the midstation (Payday, both summer and winter), old gondola midstation building and old triple Payday lift. A old gondola midstation is right next to Bonanza lift bottom (about 300 feet, the middle is the ski trail area/road area). Also, I will post 1975-1976 season trail map.

I changed some on first piciture in my first post.

The helicopter crash was when Park City was hosting the World Cup. It didn't hit lift, but a worker was killed. I think his name is Craig Badami and I can't remember if he worked for US ski team or Park City.

Why would there of been a helicopter up there in the winter?

I understand they were using it to help with moving equipment used for hosting the world cup.

Here is a quote I found on article from a new paper:

Nick Badami's son, Craig Badami, is responsible for the America's Opening World Cup Races that put Park City Ski Area on the international map," O'Brien said.

Craig Badami was killed in a helicopter crash at the resort the day after the 1990 America's Opening World Cup Races, she said.

The racing heritage will continue as the resort serves as a 2002 Winter Games venue.

Hmm I seem to recall an lift accident at Park City back in the 80s where the cable became detached and fell to the ground, killing someone and injuring alot more. Maybe it was a Lift Fire? Ring any bells for any of you?

Well if i was found un responsive, or had major life threating condition on the hill i sure the heck would want the fastest mode of transprtation to the hospital in Salt Lake City.
AirMed and Life Flight probly does 50+ flights combined off the hill from all three resort each winter. AirMed has a bird based out near I-80 and can be on scene within 10 min of dispatch, 20 min for Life Flight, which has to fly in from SLC.
One thing Life Flight has in thier favor, they have a winch and basket, so they don't have to land, they can 'hot' load if need be.
Of course it is the Pilots call whether or not the birds can fly, ie: bad weather. In this case patrol will haul ass to get you off the hill into the ambalnce

The lift that I help build The fling couch. Somewhere in the thousands of pictures i took over the years theres a photo of me hanging off the Payday mid station. I and another gu was sent to go tourqe down every bolt on the towers that made up the the station.
My blood sweat and tears are also part of Bonaza, and Deer Crest fixed grip quad at DV.

PCMR also put in an Alpine Coaster last summer which is a pretty cool addition to their summer activities, you can buy a combo ticket for a Alpine Coaster and Alpine Slide ride for 22 bucks. See http://www.parkcitymountain.com/summer/act...ster/index.html for more info.

Sure, but you don't get the coaster ride in Golden  (the price is up there, but I guess it's the resort town premium)

Wow, thanks for posting those, Skiing#1. Do you have any more old Park City pictures or maps? What year were those pictures of the Payday SLI double taken?

Interesting, I didn't know Ski Team (look at where the bottom terminal used to be until the six packs were built) and Crescent used to be called Victoria Station and Track One. Even the Mid-Mountain Lodge was back in it's old spot before they moved it uphill (Why did they move it anyway? The old spot made more sense)

Yes the old large building is Mid-Mountain Lodge. I just looked at the map and I got it.

No, I don't have any old pictures of Park City, because I was a teenager, I don't drive and I don't have a camera at this time  . My parents took me and my sister there for skiing once.

June 1978...took the pictures of Payday SLI double.

I was surprsied that Ski Team Lift still stands there now, and they don't use it. I was there last February. Ski Team and Victoria Station are not same place.

The building in the picture next to the bottom of the Bonanza lift isn't the Mid-Mountain Lodge. I'm not sure what it is, but it's another building from the mining days, and there's a historical sign there, but I've never had a chance to look at it. In the mid 80s, the Mid-Mountain Lodge building was relocated up to where it is now near the bottom of Pioneer. It used to be above the bottom of Bonanza, to the right of where you were standing when you took that picture. That building from the picture is still there, and there's a sign on the hill above the bottom of Bonanza showing where Mid-Mtn used to be

I'm pretty sure Ski Team and Victoria Station have to be the same lift with a different name. Ski Team used to start in that spot underneath the old Payday line (Payday at one time crossed over/under three lifts: Ski Team, the gondola, and Town lift) and they shortened it with a new CTEC tension terminal when the Payday and Bonanza six packs were built in 1997. It's not used that much now anyway

Thanks for the old pics of Park City.. I always like how Payday and the Ski team lift shared a tower. Also the way Payday went under the old gondola.
