You're correct and one of the forum members is doing the splice.

It's probably recycled or another resort will buy it if they feel it's in good enough condition, but unlikely.

It would be interesting to know how much a recycled haul rope sells for.

It usually pays for the trucking to get rid of it. Generally you only replace a rope if it close to not meeting acceptable criteria.

Sun Valley had been planning on replacing it for awhile now. They ordered a new cable last summer after forum member "splicer" said it would not pass inspection this year. I havent been able to get a hold of my old coworkers so i'm not sure of the time table for the splice but my guess is they are maybe a month from doing the splice (earliest guess). Kinda makes me happy i'm not there since those guys are probably going through hell. Maybe i will stop by next week and take some photos for ya guys.

Yeah some pictures will be great. I'll be back in town near the end of June, I'm sure the rope will be replaced by then, but aren't they replacing the Dollar Mt lifts with HSQ this year? I may be around for that.

Looks like they've already started on Dollar.

I talked to a snowmaking friend at sun valley today. He said they are starting prep for demolition and would possibly remove the cable but they cant take anything else down until a demolition permit is approved (next week probably). They still have not received approval for the new lifts yet but the city council shouldnt have a problem except for color of the terminals which is solved because sun valley will paint it whatever color the city approves.

I should be visiting challenger tomorrow so I will bring my camera. I am trying to get a snowmaking job this summer, so if i get a snowmaking job then i will definately take more photos.

Also Sun Valley Lift Maint. will not be building the new lifts on dollar because they dont have enough guys to do lift maint and construction. Its real tough to find workers up here in sun valley because of those million dollar homes.

PS The lifts are being sold to mad river construction.
