Those living outside the state of Utah may find this of interest. To those who do live there (here), let this posting be a service of notice.

The sleepy little town of Parowan consists of some twenty-five-hundred souls sharing about twelve family names - scattered about some six square miles. It has one elementary school, one high school and is the Iron county seat. The police force resembles that of Stockbridge, Massachusetts at the time of the Alice's Restaurant massacre. In daily dealings, one must often use the "thumb test" before deciding just how to proceed. Getting the picture? For a clearer view, check out: http://www.parowanprophet.com/ then compare this warped site to: http://www.parowan.org/

This morning, we found the rear window of our car broken out - no theft, just a rock. This marks the latest in a long series welcomes that began fifteen years ago. This list includes:

1. Stolen bicycles (cops wouldn't look - we found them a year later).

2. Numerous broken down fences - stone ones - front yard, right on the street. Cops did nothing.

3. Household ammonia substituted for saline in daughter's contacts case (while on car seat in driveway). Cops did noyhing - claiming it was a school prank.

4. Several siphoned gas tanks. Same as above.

5. At least five slashed car tires. Same as above.

6. Key scratches on several new cars - in driveway.

7. Wheel lugs removed on four occasions (removed three - left two... loose). No investigation.

8. Constant teasing of our dogs over the fences. No response.

9. Theft of items from our garage. Token response.

10. Mysterious muddy footprints from our front door to the guest bathroom (discovered this after being away for three days). Didn't bother to disturb the cops.

11. Footsteps on our roof in the middle of the night. Same as above.

12. Locked fence gates opened to let the dogs out. Same as above.

I'd like to thank the fine residents of Parowan - particularly their offspring - for their warm hospitality. It is my finest hope that you are correct in your assumption of an afterlife - where justice is finally served. In the meantime, you should be thinking about what brings on disturbing events like Columbine.

I feel your pain bud as something similar happened to my dad and I as we were passing through SLC last December. Instead of just breaking out the back window, they stole our ski gear too.

'twenty-five hundred souls sharing about twelve family names-' explains quite a bit right there. What substance is the Prophet on?

Not the same "group" I suspect. Our taunters feel they're "on a mission from God". Might be the Buddah in the front yard.

HOLY s**t Bud, thats hard to believe (but I've never been to Utah) I know you're not too keen our our border troops, but here in the Okanagan bible belt you could put a Buddha on your front lawn and people would just ask you where you bought it. My thoughts are with you.

Yesterday, Marcus Martineau - a former classmate of one daughter - had a really lousy day... according to those close to him. So did I, and other members of my family.

Tonight, I'm going camping with my family and might even try to fly-fish. I'm not all that enthusiastic about the idea, but am bending to stronger wills.

Tomorrow, I know I'll have a freshened view of my predicament and begin another go at unravelling it. Might even succeed.

Tomorrow, Marcus will be buried - the result of a self-inflicted wound - as have several others from his high school class. He worked at Brian Head.

Is there anything so urgent that it can't wait until tomorrow?

What? If that was my roof, I'd be waiting outside with a 12 gauge for those "footsteps" to come back down. If the cops refuse to help, call the FBI. The local cops will get really busy once the FBI starts asking them questions.

I've lived in California my whole life. I was born here.

some of our laws are rediculous. And there's more cars than people.

Callao is a bit sensitive about any criticism of Utah or its gregarious inhabitants.

...but then, if the shoe fits...

I can understand that. No state is perfect. there's places in California that I wouldn't go.

Well, I can hardly deny . . .
And I fit well too:
Bud-- keep your shotgun handy tonight--I might dress in black and hold a game of capture the flag on your roof.

I don't do guns... or reprisals. The "goes-around, comes-around" system seems to work well enough in the long run. I just watch, wait and eventually giggle. Even day to day, there's a lot to giggle about behind the zion curtain.

Normally I'd agree 100%, but when direct threats are committed against my family and children's safety, I WILL defend them, no exceptions. Thats why we have that right.

It's all factual - I didn't make up or embellish anything.
Do you really think that life would improve if I made life tough on their "Mayberry" police department?

What? No shotgun? Well, in that case, you're invited, Bud.
And so is the rest of Iron County. I'll bring the 7-Up.
