Child's arm torn off by chair lift on Kamchatka 4/11/2007 1:57:00 PM

Police is holding a checkup on the fact of an accident at "Moroznaya" ski resort in Yelizovsky Distroct, the Kamchatka Region, where a ski-lift tore off an arm of an 8-year-old boy while he was ascending by chair lift April 10, REGNUM reported.

The pupil of skiing school was ascending by chair lift. "For unknown reason the boy's arm was pressed into the cylinder, which the rope moves around. After the accident the child was immediately taken to Yelizovsky District hospital. The ski resort heads are carrying out their own investigation of the cause of the accident. However, according to preliminary reports, the boy was to blame for the accident as much as his coach. The coach had warned him he'd better use another chair lift. Yet the child would not listen to him," "Moroznaya" ski resort director Mikhail Alexandrov said.

When the boy was taken to hospital, doctors said his arm should be amputated. The state of the boy is reported as satisfactory.

It appears that they only have three surface lifts, I'm not sure what "rope tow" translates to in the phrase book.
